I bought mine because of a higher base clock (no messing with the bios) and the SC 980s came with Samsung memory instead of Hynix, unfortunately this was not repeated for the TitanX.:)

The build looks to be mainly a showcase build, you can argue it would be silly not to watercool the RAM after all that effort in making it look flash. Most RAM blocks are no more restrictive than angle fittings.

I love my pointless RAM block, VRM block and especially my lovely SB block which helps support my hefty GPU block using a rigid tubing connection.
