I've got 6 Scotch Bonnet seedlings that I grew from 4 year old seeds that I saved, 100% germination rate.

To start them off I place a square of kitchen towel in a Tupperware box, Chinese takeaway container, and dampen it. Place the seeds inside and seal the lid. Label it with a CD marker. Place the container next to a radiator or in a warm airing cupboard and wait for the seeds to start germinating. Mine germinated in 10 days.

Once the root shoot is about 2-3mm long place the seeds, root down on their edge, into damp compost modules. I use root trainers. Keep these warm too & as soon as a leaf shows get them good light. I place mine on a south facing window sill with a tin foil reflector behind them to bounce the light back on them, keeps them growing straight & they don't grow lanky or bend to the window.

Might try some other chilli seeds for something different.

Ho ho! i didnt know about this thread! I've got some:

Twilight
basket of fire(think these are the same)
cayenne
scotch bonnet
Trinidad scorpion Butch T's

All have come through apart from the scotch bonnet, so i'm gonna get some more sown maybe next weekend.

Started mine off using the same method as DoubleCheese. Decided after the last few years that it is too difficult not knowing what is going to germinate, so I'd try a more guaranteed method :)

This has had reasonable success for my naga jolokia seeds i received for my birthday. About 8 days, and 2/5 have germinated. I'm not sure I'll be able to keep them warm enough, especially when it is time to go to the window sill!

Get yourself a heated propagator. Just plug it into the mains and leave it on whilst you get the seedlings to grow :)

So is now the time to start planting the seeds?

I may have to get my veg book out soon to see what I plans I need to get in motion for the coming year.

Best chilli's for me? I have ordered some 'Chilli Focus' in preparation. Instuction for planting seeds and looking after them?

Heat-wise I eat pickled Halapenos like sweets, but wouldn't want to go too much hotter really. I want to be able to use the Chilli's, not be frightened of touching them without wearing gloves :)

They will be gorwn on the windowsil.

EDIT.

Ok,

Ordered: Hot Cherry, NuMex Twilight & Summer Fire Pepper along with some 'Chilli Focus' as above. Are there any guides for planting and etc, and how to best ensure they germinate?
