Ive had to give in and go and buy a couple of plants as mine are just refusing to grow :(. B&Q had a deal on for B&Q club members, 2 for 1 on all plants, plus 20% off. So it was only £1.10 for a F1 bell boy and F1 cayenne. I'd have got a few but they all looked like they were half dead. Managed to find a couple that looked ok.

Pic of them next to mine I have been growing since the end of January  :

Man, some of your chillies are tiny, I've just re potted 4 of mine onto the final pots and put into the poly tunnel. The others aren't big enough for the poly yet but I'll re pot into bigger pots next weekend. Will get pics up later on after work.

Yep, the trees around here are still bare as well. It's been a crappy start to the year so far, just hope we get some sun this summer.

I'm going to have to invest in some proper grow lights if I want to continue this hobby.

Pics will need to wait till tomorrow or Wednesday. I haven't used any grow lights, but I have got a vitopod, which has been amazing. This is only my first year so their is plenty time for them all to die, hopefully not though.

But you're right Mark, this year so far has been awful. I just hope we get some spring before summer haha. My other half is a florist who grows her own flowers, spring is coming, just not yet.

I grew more chilli's last year than I literally knew what to do with, i think I still may even have some in the freezer actually. I wont go as bonkers this year.

Is it too late to get some planted up now?

Afaik it's too late, i am in the same boat, gonna pick up some seedlings to catch up, should be available anytime now.

PS. Thanks v much to Glaucus for explaining about the light, much appreciated.

I want a year like that, I want kilos. Want to do chilli sauces.

Ah so the plot thickens. I read somewhere chillies didnt like their soil wet or the plant itself. but it just didnt seem right. So having a search tonight i've seen i can water the soil! just not over water and mist the plant itself. Will be repotting my Basket Of Fire as the roots are coming out the bottom, but i'll still keep it in the vitopod. I'll deffo get pics up tomorrow.

Coming along nicely, won't be long till they need repotting.

The 4 on the left are tomato plants, getting a head start before the garden.

Trying this myself although I realise I'm a bit late. I intend to use a heated propagator for the initial phase so hoping that it won't matter that I've missed the jan-march sowing window.
I have Naga, Jolokia, Heatwave and Demon Red. I do not know if these are proper names or ones the seed place invented (Thompson & Morgan).

Will try the germination tactic with the Tupperware and kitchen roll.

I've never tried my hand at growing peppers before, but I really would like to try growing some jalepenos. Have I left it too late in the year to begin? What kind of stuff will I need? Can anyone recommend somewhere I can pick up some decent quality seeds?

Help! :D

you're better off ordering some plugs (basically plants) at this point tbh. there are plenty of places online that are decent...first few Google results for chilli plugs are all good
:)

To be honest with the crappy weather we've had you'd probably be alright as long as you germinate using the kitchen roll in a Tupperware method and then plant them into pots in a heated propagator (at night) for a week or two. The weather is only just getting really nice so start quick!

As has been said plugs are a good option, or if you have a decent nursery with a good selection pick some up from there this weekend :)

It's never too late as you can always keep them inside over winter and they should hopefully survive and have a head start for the next year.

Do any of you plant in grow bags? Mine say to put into 3" pots after the initial stint in the heated propagator, then to transfer to grow bags after the pots.

Nah I don't bother with grow bags. Pots are much more mobile and take up less space. Three grow bags in my greenhouse pretty much fill up the floor space and thats reserved for the tomatoes.
