Assasins creed had crashed/froze in v1.00 for me, is the 1.2 version stable in vista X64 in dx10 ?
I don't want to have to have to shut down my computer again...

Yeah, you need to either play in 'very high', or give the command:

e_water_ocean_fft 1

I really like the effect, and it comes at virtually no cost in framerate. It also alters the way the ocean surfaces are rendered (more depth to the surface fluctuations). I always enable that, and the 'sunshaft' effects while playing in 'high' mode. (Enable sunshafts via r_sunshafts 1 )

To be honest, I find the colour grading effect which is on by default in 'very high' mode to make everything look washed out. I don't like it, and it takes away about 10% of the framerate when enabled.

More DMC4 Goodness @ 1920x1200

Vista32bit DX10 version. All taken ingame @ 1920x1200 on an ATI HD4850 with 8AA + Max Details on everything great card as FPS never drops below 30 which is incredible performance. Capcom have created as you will see below some of the most incredible PC Graphics ever. The textures & Lighting/Shaders are so detailed and as the game is very smooth as well it is a good example of the PC at its best. Well worth buying as the game is a lot of fun as well and much better than the console versions.
