Eve has a pretty monstrous difficulty curve, but as a result of that its hugely rewarding and will keep you playing for years. Though its has been a very long time since I was a newbie and I hear the tutorial is now much better, even if it'll take you the best part of a day :P

Just get the 14-day trial and see what you think.
 
There is no main aim, thats the point. Eve won't hold your hand and give you goals to achieve or levels to beat. Its a sandbox, you do with it what you want.

Those are shots from the test server, the graphics update will be deployed on the main server in the Dec 5th during a 24hour downtime.

Though at the moment its only the ships, stargate and stations that are being updated. All the effects, planets, asteroids, etc are being done later.
