The High-Res Screenshot Thread!

Fallout New Vegas

im getting some dodgy frame rates for no reason at all as are many people , the game seems poorly optimised or just buggy...

most of the time im at the vsync cap but looking in some directions for no reason at all causes the fps to plummet to 30ish... sometimes you can be sat looking at an NPC easily getting 60fps as soon as the npc starts to talk it drops to 40 lol...

as you can see from my screenshots the game is barely using 30-40% of my GPU and surely my 1055T isnt a bottleneck for a game like this.

the game however is pretty fun and its cool just exploring buildings and looking at the scenery.

Got a high level of shadow quality/self shadows?

Could be, iirc the game only uses 2 cores so clock speed is more important than zomg 6,000 cores!

nope... the npcs arent anything special , they dont have any realistic shadows/lighting or anything, on the official forums i noticed some people saying if you editing one of the lines in the games ini so the npcs had no heads you get a huge FPS boost.

aparently if you set the game to XP service pack 3 compatibility mode you get a hefty fps boost aswell.

its just wierd how looking one way is a solid 60fps limited by vsync , looking another at what apears to be almost the exact same kind of stuff be rendered you get 30.
it doesnt matter if its day or night either

turned on 32X AA for the hell of it
with NPC and without....
25 FPS vs 60FPS

you cant tell me something isnt wrong with the game? look at the character model ... nothing special , the shadow hes casting isnt really that good, hes not super high RES

Lol those graphics look so poor considering their first release... you would have thought they'd punch above their weight and notch the "wow" factor up.

some areas look pretty cool but others have poor textures, but the overall game is nice and seems a bit dark and brutal.

im sure we will get some nice high res texture mods like fallout 3 did

I think the point is in modern day BIG games we shouldn't need to wait for Mods, its just poor crafting if the game looks like that.

Looks a bit **** poor if you ask me from the screen shots, considering the likes of Metro 2033 etc...

self shadows are shadows they cast on themselves if you've got that on high + high shadow quality it's going to be doing a fair bit of work when the guy speaks as it has to redo all the shadows on their face as they talk.

^that confirms it abit more, it's likley the facial shadows.

try turning off self shadows.

Also the engine is horrible and has been since oblivion/civ4.

Returning to the Wasteland in preparation for New Vegas

Vegas being released has made me want to finish my copy of Fallout 3 (with all the now matured mods), since I never got round to finishing it, and now you've just sealed the deal!

Which texture packs have you used out of interest? The NMC one?
Also, what about sunglare etc?

The Fallout graphics are shocking. I've never seen such a terrible looking game in years. The first person gun models just scream budget bodge job.

Really hope they get rid of the ancient, creaky engine for Fallout 4/Oblivion sequel...
