The High-Res Screenshot Thread!

The DOF and all settings in those shots were taken from superb ENB, with the DOF settings possibly directly from Boris. I would say at least a large part of over a quarter of a million people (current unique preset downloads) will likely disagree.

Doesn't mean we can't disagree and have our own opinions, of course. :p

And, in case people misunderstood, my original comments were related to a previous set of images that Omaeka was referring to and had absolutely nothing to do with Bioshock Infinite; which I feel is exceptionally pleasing, visually.

Right, back to posting Bioshock images. ;)

How can people say that looks realistic?
My vision doesn't see everything that close as a blurry mess.

I'd honestly get to the opticians if that's how you see everything.
Is your peripheral vision pin sharp? Because it isn't...

If you look at something that sits directly in your main field of view it is very sharp, but everything around that is blurred. The difference between real-life and the game is that in real-life you aren't looking at your peripheral vision, and when you do it ceases to be your peripheral vision and becomes clear. As the game is a static screen you can spend minutes staring in to your blurry peripheral vision.

All this is pretty obvious, how could could it not be? But for some it's not, and they can't grasp that idea no matter what you say. :(

No point in discussing it when some people can't see what's right in front of them and will argue to death it's not. I guess you could think of it as one of those interesting paradoxes where two people don't see the same thing for whatever reason. Though, I would say it's more to do with logical thinking than anything else, and you can't teach people that, but you could retort they need to have their heads checked out. ;)

I haven't said it's pin sharp.
Even when things in the distance blur, or I'm focusing on something and things blur, it doesn't come close to the levels of blur/DOF on the screenshots.

I'd be freaking out if my vision was like that.

Maybe your eyes aren't so good, as you've managed to let the crux of my post pass you by.. ;)

You've demonstrated that you are confusing your focussed, direct and centre field of vision with your peripheral vision. This is always clear, unless you have sight problems.

Try this:

Place an apple on one side of a table, and then place some written words upright at the other end of the table. Walk 5 feet away, and look directly at the apple only. After a few seconds, try to read the words without moving your eyes or head at all. It will just be a blur. There is a small field of view where things are sharp enough to be perceived.

I wouldn't be able to read it, as it'd be blurred, but not to the extreme levels shown in the screenshots.
EDIT : I went into the corner of my room, stared at my chair. Everything around the chair is obviously blurred, but doesn't look anything like the screenshots.

Because you can never look at your preipheral vision in reality, if you could without it becoming clear that's what you would see, how did the most important part of what he posted go straight over your head? Was it just selective debating? :p

Distance also plays a huge part, the mountains, houses etc. in the game are much farther away than the point of focus than in your room, thus they are more out of focus.

You've hit the nail on the head. If this is the case, what's the point in blurring half the screen in game? The only semi-helpful way to do it would be to blur objects that are outside of a certain depth, not just everything that's not in the middle of the screen. Those screenshots look great, but they look more 'photo-realistic' than 'realistic'.
