The Huw Edwards situation

Yes its not like he is a priest or anything like that.

Or Mary Whitehouse clone. Honestly these people thinking being famous means you have to be whiter than white. Stop putting famous people on pedestals. People complain about gen z and the cult of celebrity but some of the comments in here are just as bad. These people on the whole are just doing a job. They aren't better than the rest of us, they just have a talent that means they get paid well to perform for the public in one form or another.

Your mask slips when you post stuff like this.

The conservatives and labour both have their fair share of dodgy MPs over the years.

If only Huw had worn a mask.. we could have save a few hundred gallons of eye bleach... :D

Anyway not sure what you mean - he was a Labour MP so I referred to him as a Labour MP.

I imagine most Tory MP's think his antics a bit tame lol..

He has a long history with depression. He has done interviews where it is mentioned. He hasn't suddenly developed it out of nowhere. I think its not inconceivable that with everything that has happened he might feel he has bought shame on his family and perhaps his colleagues. He could maybe be forgiven for feeling depressed, likely suicidal.

He most likely has a long history of stringing his wife along whilst tapping up girls too. Maybe they go hand in hand?

But it's not just about being famous you're being either naive or very disingenuous here re: the criticism made; this guy heads up a serious news program. If he was a hip-hop artist he could be hanging out with known gangsters at weekends, have all sorts of criminal past and still be fine to appear on some music-related programming.

To pretend it's just about fame is nonsense, this guy covered Covid (but allegedly broke covid rules), covers sleazy behaviour by MPs (but has allegedly indulged in sleazy/seemingly adulterous behaviour himself), was allegedly skating very close to the line re: just how legal the people he DM'd were. Wouldn't necessarily get him dropped by a record label but it's not really the same for a news reader/journalist.

That completely undermines him as BBC news presenter... then add to that the allegations from junior BBC employees, a news presenter may not be an executive in the organisation but it's a senior position paying nearly half a million a year, a position of power and influence... those sorts of allegations would be taken seriously in any workplace especially if they relate to an abuse of power. But sure just pretend it's only about fame and ignore the context of his senior position in the organisation or the actual job he has vs other famous people.

Other people have come forwards about DM sliding (we've already had the allegations from the 17 year old schoolboy and the junior BBC employee)... note these people are not claiming to be under age, one of them is apparently 35 and joked on social media that Huw tried to groom him until he found out.

Nothing wrong legally per se with flirting on social media, could come accorss creepy when unsolicited and legally-dodgy if pursued when you're not necessarily aware of the age of the person (as in the case of the 17-year-old allegation) or HR-dodgy if you do it to people you work with:

This alleged incident seems super tame:

This alleged incident is obviously flirty:

That sort of thing would appear to be quite reckless and *if* that was a regular thing he did then it's unsurprising to have seen 3 more people come forwards after the initial story + then the BBC employees and then these appear on social media too.

Is that the breadth of his evil?

Really...?

No, and it wasn't presented as such, try to read again, it's just examples of him sending flirty DMs.

Man, if that's a cause for concern, I hope nobody ever looks at our work chats on Teams... positively X-rated in comparison!

No one said those two were cause for concern. Would it be cause for concern at your work if a senior person was allegedly flirting unsolicited with a junior employee and caused them to feel uncomfortable? Or was allegedly flirting with a 17-year-old?

That text exchange is innocent flirting..kisses and heart emojis is also quite common in messages from gay guys.

Seriously @dowie - you're coming across as, at the very least, a prude and possibly even homophobic.

No, the point isn't that he's gay (or bi) but rather that the allegations seem to involve him having a habit of doing that ergo it's a bit reckless if he allegedly ends up flirting with a 17-year-old and a junior employee...

You guys do understand that right? It seems like people are deliberately ignoring that and then pretending the criticism is about some other milder behavour that wasn't criticized.

Like earlier an argument about him being famous when it's more his position as a news reader and a senior employee that are the issue. Now this when his alleged flirting is presented for the sake of context you go and dismiss the context as though it's the central accusation?

Just to check - do you think a senior employee at your workplace flirting unsolicited with a junior employee would be acceptable?
Do you think that a 61 year old man flirting with a 17 year old school boy is acceptable?

If I'm a prude or possibly homophobic for thinking those things are bad then you're possibly being the opposite; pro sexual harassment and pro.. well something rather dodgy!
