The I sold something to an idiot thread

Yup join the club, had sent two second hand laptops out and clearly specifically stated on the description in 12pt red font they were without hard disks or caddies. Guess what the response from the buyer was with a complaint? They didn't read the description and they certainly didn't contact me first with a message other than "where is the delivery", "should arrive today", "ah ok". Instantly ebay sided with him (!) that I refund him without them reading the description. I had to respond back to **e-place** to ask them to read the description which clearly stated they were without hard drives or caddies.

Completely joke as a seller so not used it since.

[edit] oops mentioned the company my bad :(

Can associate with so much on here.

Recently sold something on e(vil)bay where the listing clearly stated post only to uk. The item sold, and the buyer emailed asking for it to be sent to Greece! Pointed out to the buyer several times that we dont sell outside of uk, cancelled the sale...........and they left negative feedback!!

Some people!!!!

Becuase the MM crowd expect to pay about 60% of what something is worth.

Idiots on ebay will pay close to retail for a second hand part, that is why people sell on the auction site, no other reason. It isn't more convenient neither is it cheaper. People in the MM expect to pay a reasonable price so sellers get greedy and choose the risky option.

At the end of the day regardless of what buyers expect to pay for an item it will only sell for what you the seller want to accept for it.

I've heard a few times on here instances where that's happened to someone. If you write to eBay I think there's a good chance they'll remove it.

I must admit, I never expect to pay the asking price on the MM, and therefore don't expect to sell at the asking price.

I've never had any problems with buying nor selling anywhere. Then again I mostly buy and have a thorough check of both the seller and item to minimize any future problems.

Ebay does annoy the hell out of me with idiots paying way over market value for items. I recently bought a pair of very good speakers that should go for £370-400 used. Managed to get them off gumtree for £380 inc postage but the cheapest on ebay was something ridiculous like £430 +£30 postage.

Here we go again!!!

Sold an i5 3570K OEM processor on a popular selling site. Sent the item the same say as the payment came through. Not an hour after posting it I received an email saying they bought the wrong one for their motherboard and wanted a refund.

I replied saying they could have a refund once they send it back. Tonight I get another email moaning saying it arrived in a terrible state, no box, manual or fan! here we go....

They have logged a complaint, and I politely replied saying it was in perfect condition and that OEM means you only get the processor. They replied back and I have a feeling reading between the lines they expect me to refund before they send it back.

To be honest, they come across as a bit of a scammer

This isn't ebay btw, the rain forrest site.

Why do I always sell stuff to idiots :(

You've been here since 2005; you have enough posts to access MM and yet you sold somewhere else. I think you were trying to be greedy by exploiting the "idiots" you get on those sites by making extra money than you could have from selling here, as people are price concious and more savy.

I can't understand, If he's bought the wrong one why on earth did he open it? He should have left it sealed and just posted it back? Then he could have avoided any accusations on what state the product was in.

It's possible that he already had a broken one and planned from the start to con the OP:

1) Acquire non-functioning CPU in some way.
2) Find a functioning one on sale second hand through a market website.
3) Buy it, get it, take it out of the packaging and put the non-functioning one in its place.
4) Make up some excuse to demand a refund. Keep the working CPU and send the non-functioning CPU to the person who sold the working one.

It's a slightly elaborate way to steal something, but it works and it's far easier and safer than a more overt theft.

I've recently discovered a hilariously easy (and seemingly "above board") way to get scammed on ebay. I knew ebay/Paypal customer service were inept but check out this "loop hole":

1. Sell item on ebay
2. Send faulty item instead of working one
3. Buyer opens dispute; agree to a return
4. Buyer returns item via recorded delivery
5. Refuse to sign for the parcel
6. Paypal side with the seller and decline refund citing "invalid tracking information provided"
7. Profit.

No, he's an idiot because he bought a MINT condition OEM processor and complained about it not being in an intel box with instructions and a fan.

It even said on the listing, PROCESSOR ONLY! Not sure what else I could have done

People will pay what they pay, if it sold for x amount I would have accepted it

I am constantly amazed that people will do this - end up paying the price of an item NEW when it is actually used!

People just get absorbed by the bidding red mist and lose sense I think!

Honestly far too many ways that people exploit ebay which at the end of the day hurts the seller. You can take pictures of your item with the serial number, with your ebay username including an accurate description and it doesn't make a blind bit of difference.

The "trust" or feedback ratings on ebay are highly dubious also, I would rather sell here or AVF which is more of a community driven place which takes huge strides to prevent these things from happening. Or local pickup only on Gumtree where the seller can inspect and test the item and buy it with the condition "sold as seen".
