The Indoor Riding/ Zwift/ TrainerRoad etc. Thread

Anyone ever popped a inner tube on the turbo?
Once, but it didn't pop as such just went *bwooompftflaplfapflap*

Blew a tyre off a rim once, that was a real bang. I thought I'd broken the wheel! Might even have been buckled afterwards?! I had several punctures on the turbo, burned through/shredded 1 tyre before switching to a trainer tyre.

I've even had a front wheel puncture. Work that one out!

Another great 100km 3R ride on sunday morning. Well behaved group so very little keeping required. Couple of longer sweeps where well fielded by an awesome team of regular keepers. Great lead as well.

I've also been roped into probably riding the TTT run on Thursdays and the WRTL Race series (Ultimate Race League) on Tuesday nights with the 3R guys. Both start at 7.40pm which is about an idea time for me! Hopefully committing to these will give me some midweek structure and regular sessions as at the moment I seem to not have the willpower for 2 midweek/evening sessions.

@Roady I would have joined you yesterday but a mate stalked me, and goaded me into another race. Felt a bit better than I thought despite feeling like crap and initially only went on Zwift for a recovery ride. Ended up winning the A category too!

That one hurt! First ride back into a big race series like this with the 3R guys. Riding in C, made the front group. It was a huge group on quite a rolling course. Created 1 split but then found myself the wrong side of another, after a big effort to close it I got almost immediately dropped. Eased up for the chasers around 1min down. Sat in the wheels and rested, marked a few and tried to hold on until the finish. Things split towards the end and closed gaps twice but couldn't make it stick. Brief rest and I had the legs to finish the end KOM Afterparty ramps strongly. Making up around 10 places, somehow finishing in 11th! Utterly empty, but great fun.

I thought I was totally sucking.

Turns out Zwift altered the resistance earlier this month/last month of the different surfaces and now the gravel is slower to ride.

Took me 8 1/2 minutes to climb out of the jungle and it used to take 6! I feel a bit better now, as I rode the jungle loop (30km) and it took me a full hour, I used to do 35-36km in the same time!
Yup, really threw us too when they did that, especially at the time it didn't roll out on iOS. We had a group ride a few days after and things kept splitting on the gravel and it took a little while for someone to say!

I've avoided the jungle since lol

@Roady Are you racing tonight? I was going to do the ZA Tri Workout #5, which starts at 7:30pm. I did fancy a race instead though for a laugh.
Yup, my first ride in WTRL - URL. Utterly brutal and did not disappoint!

Haha nice work & well done! Great fun isn't it! Do more and you'll really get to see what some of the big racers and races are like. WTRL last night was a prime example of it. One of my teammates won the C race but got DQ, amazing ride. Others coming in 4th & 5th. Annoyed I couldn't stick with them but a plan for the rest of the series is to sit in and not get split like that lol.

@Roady I might have a go at a few more races, but I really don't get the category system (apart from the obvious!)

For example last night, I came 8th overall but I won the A category. How?! Why aren't the 7 people ahead of me in the A too? One guy who joined me when I broke away finished a second ahead of me and he was in the D category! (and his finishing w/kg was close to me)

.
I tried this one for the first time on Sunday but found I was either nudging the fence or getting dropped off the back found it really hard to stay in the pack. Admittedly I was watching TV so not paying 100% attention to the changes of pace which can't have helped. Ended up falling off the back after 65k and an average 203w and after a minute of trying to catch back up called it a day and went for a brick run instead

Wonder if anyone can help, I am after a TABLET that can run Zwift, their is so much confusing information on Android tablets its very difficult to actually get some current up-to date information, I do not want to spend a massive really as its for taking down to the gym on the wattbike and treadmill with a footpod.

Does it work with the new Amazon 10" firetablets ?

Category system is flawed, but is the best we really have. At least it's based on W/KG. Link the race and i#ll take a look.

At a guess, the race admin is very slack and not DQ'ing or upgrading people riding over their category limits. Not much can be done about slack admins! They have the tools & info to do it all now!

That's really why most of the racers stick to the series/organised group/club regular rides/races as they're well adminned. Less fliers, more accurate racers in category = generally more racers riding = more competition & fun! ;)

It's hard to judge, Zwifts drafting and 'blob' effects really do mean you need to concentrate. I've tried watching TV or such before and get far too distracted. My power goes all over the place and my cadence really drops. Even on sunday one of the large chases I had to make (and call for help) was caused by me reading a website and not paying enough attention...

No, doesn't work on Fire. I'd avoid Android for something reliable if you're buying a tablet with a requirement for Zwifting. Good to have a play with, if you had one already, but it's still very new.

You're better to go the iOS/Apple route for something future proof, but an alternative could be the MS Surface. They used to be too expensive, but they do a 'Surface Go' now which only cost about £300-400. Do some research first for feeedback from others using Zwift on it.

We're using multiples of them through work and they seem really quite good. I can't install Zwift on one though lol. Think you might need to get the 'Pro' version to install something not on the MS Store.

Lol read the description for that one and it'll answer for you... It was an age categorisation race. You entered A which is 30-39 years old. Think that's accurate? Guy in D is 60-69 years old... so the categorisations are not performance based, just age.

TLDR; A grandad beat you in the sprint ;)

At the top of the race (above course) change it from 'Results' to 'LIVE' and that should match what you saw on screen. Explains it nicely for yours - you where the first A to finish, age range on there from your ZP details puts you as the first 'Master' to finish.

Still, serious numbers there mate! :o

If I do a Zwiff race I now have nothing on other than Zwift - I've also paid the price too many times now of not concentrating for a moment then finding I've been spat. Then you've gotta burn big matches to get back.

Downward spiral, it never ends well.

haha I did that once while watching Netflix. I was paying attention but for a brief moment on a London race, at one of those tiny 'inclines' near Trafalgar Square, I wasn't watching and the group buggered off into the distance. I was solo from then on in!

I think that's the thing, generally it's only in 'group' type rides we/I would consider seriously watching things, but then the blob/draft effect is so strong when you're dropped it takes such a chase you need to be aware it's happening to catch it early otherwise you don't stand a chance.

The general 2.5wkg group rides I do I'm doing lots of Sweeping/keeping and even towing the group at 3-4wkg efforts around that blob, so when within it the 2.5wkg is really quite easy for me, but even sat in the group at 2.5 and below I don't think I would be able to watch something very easily, it's enough of an effort that it requires concentration to maintain it. A ride at 2.0w/kg I might be able to...

Wahoo have offers on reconditioned Kickrs. Two year warranty on them. 2018 Kickr is £599, Kickr Core is £479. Very tempted at that price...

Bleugh.

C grade Italy Specializma race. Felt not great but need to get back on it and get fitness up after a bit of work time off and then cold (still have a lingering cough/chest that’s two weeks now!). Hung in a group just above my ability and did some reasonable watts. Not on zwift power yet, not sure why, maybe loads of racing now makes it take longer to upload.

The NY circuit always throws up incorrect time to finish. It’s about 2km out, with the distance flicking about at the end. Caught me out in a race I did a month back. Lept away with 2km to go. Turned into 4km to go and everyone flew past me.

Gotta say that's a regular annoyance - countdown distance being wrong, it's done me up like a kipper numerous times. Fix it Zwift ffs, it's basic stuff.
