The Intel Arc owners thread

Apparently there are 300k Arc gamers.

This month's Steam Hardware Survey says that 0.23% of gamers use Intel Arc. There are 132 million Steam users and 0.23% of that is about 300k. That's a long way off the top card, the RTX 3060 which has 5.1% or 6.7 million users. (My RTX 4090 is used by 0.99%, or about 1.3 million.)

I've never had a steam survey on my Arc setup. :'(

Really went off the idea of selling my desktop PC lately, or at least not the GPU... With the downsize being successful, and costs of everything being a mess. It seems like a smart idea to keep a somewhat competent gaming card around.

I was thinking about the current GPU prices and insurance. If you lost a RTX 3070 to fire or theft, then the Arc B580 is almost an equivalent card at a much lower MSRP.

I installed a B570 on a 5600X system today. The results are comically bad in MMOs.

With lot of players on screen the game is capped at 30fps with max settings at 1440p. Dropping to low (potato) settings and 720p increases it to a few frames above 30fps when it should be running hundreds. The CPU bottleneck is real.

Fortunately I knew this was going to happen, so it doesn't matter. But for entry level gamers who don't know this, this is bad.

What a sad state of affairs. How is 5600x resulting in poor performance? Even with my xeon 5670 shouldn't be getting such lousy FPS with a decent GPU.

I don't play MMOs so have no experience of any Intel card in them, but is the expected performance of the Arc *that* bad for the game? Might be worth a check of the Intel Arc subreddit to see if others are playing without issue?

Obligatory: "CSM disable/Rebar enable/above 4g enable, etc?" :D
If unwilling to do system reinstall, I've seen people have performance improvements just from reinstalling chipset drivers too.

Well, I went and brought the Sparkle B580 and have it downstairs ready to be fitted to my new build.
5700X3D
32gb ram
B550 Aorus Elite AX
When I get chance, I will get the build completed.

Be moving from:-
Ryzen 5 2600
16gb
B450 Aorus M
EVGA 1080

Hopefully see some decent improvement

It's definitely CPU bound. It's fine when I haven't put it under a CPU intensive scenario. It's fine in most games and benchmarks.

For comparison though, in the same system a 4070 would actually react to settings and resolution in the same situation. At 1440p max it would be like 50-60fps, but would fly if I relaxed the settings.

An additional test I did on the B570, was at max settings and 1440p, I upped the resolution scale. The fps didnt change until I went above 120% scale.

B580 vs RX 7600 XT on an old Xeon E5-2697v3 (14 core Haswell CPU).

TLDW: The Radeon RX 7600 XT is mostly but not always (Cities: Skylines, Frostpunk 2, Returnal) slightly faster, sometimes a lot faster - Arc still has problems with Starfield - but is £30 more expensive. OTOH the Arc B580 has more VRAM.

Its confirming what HUB said about pairing it with a budget friendly CPU, which i think is a fair point to make, you're not pairing this with a £450 Ryzen 9800X3D, i don't know what point he was trying to make with an old 'China reseller' Intel rig, what was he expecting??? HUB using a Ryzen 5600X is the more sensible thing to pair it with as that CPU is still available brand-new the world over and on OCUK its £120, £110 if you get the none X which is the same 6 core 12 thread CPU.

Besides that anyone else noticing the frame drops on the B580? Right hand side, there is very noticeable hitching on that GPU.

I will say tho for £250.

Its not bad, the RX 7600 XT is £300, tho currently out of stock.

At least he is comparing it to an AMD GPU, i see a lot of these tech journalists are still seemingly afraid to do that, Benchmark BEN for example, i find that suspicious as Intel also like to pretend AMD GPU's don't exist, because they are better value than the Nvidia GPU's Intel do compare themselves to, i get Intel wanting to sell themselves in the best light but that's not the job of tech journalists.

I think it's fair using a old gen CPU/system, for example someone who's got a old but good system ie like me 5670 with 24GB RAM is still plenty decent, but needing a up to date GPU.

Not everyone can buy a a new AM5 system, and if my old 5670 did as good as a modern system, for light gamer...then makes sense to keep using it.

I bulit a new am5 system with a rx7600 and went with this gpu in the end and must say ive been happy with it for what i need it for.

Im kinda old now and play on a 24 inch 1080 180htz monitor.

Im getting around 90-100 fps on blops on ultra settings. 110 ish on rdr2 maxed out on vulcan setting. My single player games all play decent and above 60fps.

Have not even used xess setting yet.

Its whisper quiet also As i went for the asrock steel legend version.
