The Intel Arc owners thread

Been a little out of the loop with this end of the GPU market but recently needed to do my research due to my teenage daughter asking for an upgrade. She’s not a huge gamer but her old 2060 is starting to show its age. Was pleasantly surprised to see some positive news on intel cards, specifically the b580.
Is there any issues to note that would prevent me from buying over a 4060, for example?

Ensure your motherboard supports rebar otherwise performance is terrible.

Intel had high CPU overhead but I believe been improved. No hardware dx9 support so older games won't be as smooth as amd/Nvidia

Ensure how the amd 9060 compares in price to the b580 maybe if similar check that out also?

Think there is a decent price difference bewtween the AMD9060 to be fair but wasn’t aware of the limitations you mentioned. She’s on an intel 12100 i3 cpu if my memory servers me well, so will look into that, thanks.

Personally, I'd consider a B580 not enough of a jump (from the 2060) to justify the purchase, especially when paired with a lower-end CPU.

TPU's GPU database says 47% faster, which isn't bad, but given the potential for higher driver overhead and performance issues with running certain games, I'd feel better with a bigger overall increase.

9060 XT 16GB moves that number to twice as fast (as the 2060): 99%, which combined with the 16GB of VRAM should help it to last longer.

Hold fire for a few weeks: Intel may be about to release the B770 at CES. You might also look into what a CPU upgrade - to a 12600 - will do for her.

ive got a b580 and so far am happy with it , although i always get an upgrade itch and was looking at the 9060xt for next upgrade. has there been any indication if the b770 will be better than the 9060 as i have been impressed with intels driver support and the b580 itself

We have no idea; all we have are rumours. The B770 will have to offer better price/performance than the RX 9060 XT. We'll see.

cheers , i see there is presentation later so will have to see :) The pricing will be interesting as it wont be long before we see gpu prices rise due to memory shortages

Would the B580 be a good pairing with a Ryzen 5700x for 1440p? Looking for budget options for an upgrade from a gtx1080 before things get even crazier with prices.

It depends on certain factors

Does your mobo support rebar ?

Also b580 can be problematic with older games.

Other than that then i think you would be happy. Maybe youtube some vids of it at 1440p

@bigjonnyauk thanks for the reply. Took me a while to find the settings in BIOS, just in case Google's AI answer was incorrect, but yes the option is there. I did look at youtube but even when they specified the 7700x, it usually had an intel or X3D cpu in the actual benchmark. I do a bit of research on the older games problems and see if will be an issue.
