The Intel Arc owners thread

Exactly - everyone has given up on gaming GPUs (and CPUs). Whatever dregs we get are just whatever left overs they have that happen to be more profitable when sold to us rather than a datacenter

Man, dark times for GPUs. I just got nostalgia thinking about the old days, upcoming cards, competition in the space, proper benchmarking. It feels like all the fun has been taken out of it these past few years..

As the underdog, Intel really needs to do what its competitors are not doing and produce gaming GPUs to fill the gap.
When they don't sell, due to the insane prices they'd need to be sold at, it wouldn't make much sense at all.
It would be far more attractive for Intel to give up on GPUs completely than work to take the gaming sector right now.

Unless they also do memory chips it doesn't matter how many GPU chips they can make.

And if they were a memory company the CEO would be dragged out and shot if they were doing anything other than maximising price to take advantage of the AI demand.

People will also buy their higher margin professional cards, meaning a gaming focused card for less would not make a lot of sense.
We want these cards, but it's just not going to happen.

Thought I'd give a quick update on the B580 I got for a Windows VM on my Unraid box after selling my dedicated gaming rig.

Gaming rig was a beast. 9950X3D, CL28 DDR5 6000 RAM, 9070XT. All top end components. This Unraid box is, not in the same league. Its a decent MSI Z790 board, 14700k, with just some of the P cores isolated for the VM, and then the GPU on pass through. Storage is just using one of my M2 SSDs in the storage pool.

Short version, its suprisingly good. Happy to run some benchmarks for people if wanted. I think the main challenge was some very minor XML editing that ChatGPT had to talk me through to get the pass through to work reliably, and I can't use the latest drivers as they didn't want to play ball nicely, but otherwise, its ace.

For a sub £200 card second hand, its well worth considering if you don't have the outrageous costs of other cards available.

But are people actually buying Intel’s pro cards is sufficient quantities?

Interesting will give them a go tonight, they have been getting better, I have been thinking about watercooling my Arc, I know it doesnt need it but it will look better with everything else being watercooled.
