*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

Me and my girlfriend picked ours up today from the Carphone Warehouse. They said they had 3x 16GB ones in and a few 8GBs but sold out pretty quickly, good job we ordered ours yesterday online. Managed to activate mine after a bit of trouble with the iTunes activation server, my girlfriend hasn't been successful yet and Engadget just reported that all the activation servers are offline now due to the huge volume of traffic (you'd think they would learn after the US launch last year).

My impression so far is that this is an amazing device, not having owed the first generation one I am really impressed. The GPS pinpointed me to within about 3 meters and locked on pretty fast, still playing with everything and am really excited.

My SIM still says no service after picking up the phone this morning from O2. They did do the manual contract thing because the system was down and said it would take a little longer for the SIM to be activated...but this long??

just called cpw and they said it will probably be 24hrs

Got my iPhone today too, but the certain lack of a 3G sim to go with it from o2 doesn't help, spoke to a call centre assistant and he said "best thing to do is to go to a o2 or cpw store and tell them you never got the sim", "and they'll give you a new sim card and register it at the same time".

Argh!!!!! Not happy tbh i'm gutted

I've just put in my SIM (that i've been using in old iPhone on a none iphone contract), although I can't sync or connect via iTunes, after leaving it, the home screen has just appeared and the phone is fully functional (firmware 2.0).

was your seal on your box perfect?

was your seal on your box perfect?

Yup.

The envelope that the sim card should be in wasn't even sealed, surely a mistake on the packers' behalf at o2 warehouse before sending. And not to check the sim card in the first instance surely.
