*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

So they do actually have 16Gb version there for the masses? If that's the case then a wee trip up to London this evening might be in order! Queues are horrendous are they? Maybe they are like that all day!

Yep, they said they had plenty of 16Gbs in both colours- might be a lie, but you never know.

Queue was quite long- only about 20-30 people in it I reckon (although they had a second queue round the corner, couldn't say how long that was). It wasn't so much the number of people waiting though, as the time it took to process the application through O2s sloooooooooooooooooow gateway.

One guy who didn't have his driving licence had to go home after queueing with us, but they said he could jump straight to the front tomorrow morning, which would also imply that there's plenty of stock.

Interestingly they had plenty of space in the queueing area indoors, but kept a couple of queues outside. The point being to get a bit of exposure and drum up some interest we reckoned.

hmmm might be too late for me to go up tonight then if i'm forced to wait in a large queue. the store closes at 9ish.

I can't think they'd boot everyone out that hadn't been served yet though-probably close the doors and deal with the remainder. Might be worth phone the store to see?

Am I right in thinking you can't sent contacts via text with this phone? I tried earlier and ended up calling the person to give them the number.

got my push email working :D

Had to restore the phone, left it at factory settings rather then restoring it to my backup up settings, and then added a new exchange account and this time it worked sport on, calendar/Mail etc all come through instantly.

Okay I'm sticking with my initial impression - the battery life on my phone is utter crap!
Today I have used 3G internet for less than five minutes, wireless internet only to grab my emails so less than 1 minute and sent 10 txts and I've had to charge it up as it got to 20% by 5pm...I'm starting to get a bit annoyed with it now...

Hmm, I've been playing music on mine for about 4 or 5 hours today, browsed the net for a while whilst on trains going out and about in London, sent a fair few texts and have been faffing about with youtube on it whilst at home (using wireless) and my battery's at 2/3 full so far, not too bad I think. It might just take a few charges for it to sort itself out.

Take it back. That's not right at all. I've been on mine on and off all day with 3G and wifi. I'm down to 65% ish.

Agreed its awful, just have to keep it topped up

Being able to get 30% off O2 contracts makes the new iPhone more appealing! £35 + £7.50 unl text bolt on for £32.50, tempting! Sell v1 for £200 and that makes it £27/month contract, not too bad!
Might wait and see how everything pans out after initial rush though

I rang O2 before and asked about the iPhone as I am currently on a Simplicty contract. I will be able to change my tariff to the 18month iPhone one but I will have to wait 2-3 weeks before they get any stock in. It may be a case of seeing which Apple Store nearest me has stock taking out a new contract then cancelling the old one.

I did some research first and everything seems legit, but it is a risk.

Still is MS won't give IMAP support I'm going to move away from them anyway. If my account gets hijacked then that will just quicken the process.

£15 a year to Microsoft gives Hotmail Plus, pop3 and forwarding. I have my email forwarded to my gmail, which is then happily picked up on the iPhone. I have been migrating for a year or so, but there are always stragglers.

if you are not migrating just set the reply to address to your old hotmail.

Apple store would be your best bet. I was a doubter a few days ago to someone on here, but i was in the Glasgow Apple store yesterday and they where selling them, even had white ones, gurrrrrrrrr

Picked myself up a 16GB black iPhone today at Glasgow, and indeed there were stacks of white ones sitting on the table beside them :)

Turned up at the Regent Street store just after 5 when I finished work only to find that they had stopped letting people into the queue. As they were worried that they wouldn't have enough time to process the people already in the queue as most of their staff were leaving at 6 :( Seriously this in store activation is more trouble than its worth
