The Kids Breakfast Challenge

Sounds great.......for a family of 4 to share, anybody who even attempts to eat that by themselves deserves a heart attack

8 egg cheese omlette, and the potatoes and the bread would finish me off. Also the amount of fat would fill me up too quickly.

Impressive if a little wasteful.

If I can be bothered to wake up early on Saturday I may visit a beef eater to check this out!

Will get some pics too!

Not necessarily. It's probably a loss leader. Think of the publicity they'll be getting just by having it on the menu.

i think it's do-able if they use frozen sausages/bacon etc from a cash and carry, i mean i think makro do a big bag of sausages for dirt cheap.

12 rashers of bacon
12 sausages
Six eggs - dirt cheap
Four black pudding slices
Four slices of bread and butter - dirt cheap
Four slices of toast - dirt cheap
Four slices of fried bread - dirt cheap
Two hash browns - dirt cheap
Eight-egg cheese and potato omelette - dirt cheap
Saute potatoes - dirt cheap
Mushrooms
Beans - dirt cheap
Tomatoes - dirt cheap

you can get 2kg of bacon thick cut for £6.49 from makro
8 richmond sausages are £1.04 in makro

the above 2 prices is for fresh chilled produce not frozen, so imagine that you make the above for less than £8 quite easily if it was all frozen, etc.

the mushrooms, sausages, bacon and black pudding are the most expensive things their, and i can most likely guarantee they will be frozen sausages and you can get 5kg of frozen sausages for a few quid i believe, i cant remember the exact price now, it's been so long since i've been in makro.

i bet they make about a £5 profit on each one, i mean who would actually go to a crappy looking cafe just because they did some ridiculous £15 breakfast for 1? i mean 4-6 people could easily share all of that.

The ingredients are highly unlikely to be frozen. It will all be fridge/dry-store.

But yeah they probably do make a little profit, but I'll bet it's not much. I still think that it's largely for the publicity, rather than something that will directly make them profit. Plus I'll bet they only sell a couple a week. More a talking point rather than a big seller.

Not to mention that they give them away for free if you finish it in under an hour! ;) :D

even the most expensive items on that list would be <10p per item when bought in bulk, i see no reason for it costing them any more than ~£6 MAX to buy the ingredients, with overheads they will still profit but lets get real.. they probly only sell 2 a week anyway :p

In short, great!

The process was so simple. We call a waiter and order as much cooked food as we want. The hardest thing we had to do was make pour our own drinks and help ourselves to continental breakfast goodies.

  • 3 Fried Eggs
  • Two Sausages
  • 2 or 3 pieces of bacon
  • Beans
  • 6 Slices of fried bread

Now my girlfriend would say I was deafeted, I'd say I put up a good fight. I cleared 80% of plate.

I've been pretty much full for the entire day.

Thumbs up!

lol thats a big ol portion of fried bread there, i think id have opted for 1-2 slices and more sausages + tomato's and mushrooms :)
thanks for sharing, im looking forward to going myself now (shame they dont do hash browns or chips though :/ )

have you got a beefeater resaurant near you? they do an all you can eat brekkie for £7.99 and kids eat free with every paying adult
weve got one just down the road.. ive not tried it yet so cant comment on quality but maybe soon.. i think it will be best to go after an 'all nighter' :D
Not most of the all nighters I've pulled :(

Looks good, but yes - you were certainly beaten. That's a tiny amount to eat from that quite small brekky (3 eggs, 2 sausage, 3 bacon, beans and 6 bits of fried bread) - must try harder - you've left most of the bread, one and a bit eggs and a rasher and a half of bacon :p

Or to put it another way, all you have eaten is 2 sausages, one and a half rashers of bacon, one and a half eggs, some beans and a few bites out of some fried bread. Very poor show - must try harder :(

Great Yarmouth (although there's bugger all 'great' about it, I can assure you) isn't a million miles away from me - maybe I'll go and give that proper 'all you can eat' breakfast a go - any sponsors? :D:D

you'd still have a fair way to go to beat that challenge

To be honest i'd rather pay £15 for decent sausages bread and black pudding rather than whats on that plate.
