The last game you completed, and rating (Console Edition)

Expanse: A Telltale Series - 7/10. I haven't read the books but I did really enjoy the TV series and had fairly high hopes for this game but I finished it feeling somewhat disappointed. Gameplay was the standard Telltale style of walking about looking at objects, having conversations, making story-changing decisions and some QTEs thrown in for good measure, but didn't really bring anything new or interesting. The story was okay, it reveals some of Drummer's backstory as well as features a couple of other characters from the series and the Belter dialogue was spot-on. Visuals were decent, decently detailed though many areas felt a bit static with a lack of animation or interaction to make things interesting, and some of the environments are rather vast allowing you to move in zero-gravity and explore.

If you're a big fan of the TV series it's worth picking up (maybe wait for a sale) but if not there's nothing else compelling here unfortunately. I was hoping it would look and feel a bit more like playing an episode of the series, but it never quite got that for me.

Assassin's Creed Mirage - 7.5/10

Really enjoyed going back to a city environment for an AC game - and also really nice to play an AC game that wasn't so massive and overwhelming whilst having a greater focus on stealth. There were times when I was just getting overwhelmed trying to take on 5+ guards at once and would have to disappear and then try another approach.

The setting of Baghdad... Wow. It's so well done and so enjoyable to traverse around. It was nice to not have to rely on fast travelling everywhere like in the last 3 games because the map was so vast. A tighter map just meant it was way more enjoyable to get lost in.

The story is good - although no real stand out 'baddies' like we had in the old AC games with some of the more gruesome Templars and Basim is a little annoying to start off. The simplied skill tree was really appreciated and the gadgets/tools are great. I'd say of the six tools, five of them are really useful (the trap doesn't feel like it's worth using over anything else).

I like the introduction and use of Assassin's Focus - not for the big chain kills but for jumping in and out and getting to places with it that you might not be able to reach otherwise.

The movement felt a little stiff at times but I think that's because it still feels like an Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla game rather than Unity/Syndicate/Revelations/AC2 etc. where city based movement was the main thing being built on - but it really was great to play an AC game in a city environment again and it's made me want to fire up Unity or Syndicate and have another play through.

Performance on PS5 was great, played it at 60fps performance mode and never experienced any issues with frame drops or bugs or anything at all.

Really happy I picked it up, surprised at how quickly I rattled through it (finished the main story in a week) but I basically dropped everything else I've been playing (BF2042, F1 23). Tempted to go for the plat trophy - but for now I'm just going to run around the streets of Baghdad with a max level assassin.

I am coming to the end of it. Took me a while to get my head around the new/old style of play as I’ve only really played the newer ones apart from Unity. I am into it now though and the stealth is very well done. I avoid combat totally when I can and play as a hidden one which is great fun. Baghdad is beautifully done fair play to them. I’m about 24 hours in after a week or so but I have been trying to 100% all areas and contracts. My last Odyssey play through took me 70-80 hours so this tighter length is most welcome!

I decided to go for the platinum trophy after seeing that I wasn't too far off just from playing the game normally! I always like that about games when you sort of make really good trophy progression just playing the game how it's meant to be played. Finally got it the Plat last night along with 100% of all areas. One of the trophies (blade in the crowd) was pretty annoying to get. It feels like it's bugged out but it just seems that the requirements for it counting a kill are really particular, that was the only one that really caused me any trouble.

I'd definitely suggest finishing the main story first before trying to complete 100% of all of the areas. There are a few areas that only open up as you do the main story (without giving away any spoilers). All in all, platinum trophy in 26 hours is quite good and the game was brilliant.

Definitely one that I'll come back and play again in 6 months time.

I finished the story and contracts then used a guide to find some locations that I missed. I didn’t push for the plat maybe I’ll try that with a future play. Moved on to GOW Ragnarok which will keep me occupied until Spidey 2 drops on Friday!

Mario, AND Spider-Man 2. This weekend is gonna rock.

Edit. Just seen famitsu score spider man 2 higher than Mario. Wow.

6.5/10

Been playing Dredge for a while - it's a simple Fishing game with a storyline and some 15hrs of gameplay.

It's very addictive despite its simplistic visuals, I just wish there was a bigger upgrades path for your boat and more stuff to do. A paid expansion/dlc is coming in November though which hopefully will add some decent content.

Spider-Man 2 - 0/5

Excellent graphics, really good story, the new powers and abilities are great fun, the fights feel more epic than last time, especially later in the game with Venom so without the bugs it would probably be a 5/5.

Unfortunately I’m not prepared to give a game that’s as buggy as this a single point.

Floating cars, missing enemies in crime fights, the sound disappeared on me twice in game, it crashed once, I had to reload countless times because the game froze and I’m locked out of the platinum because of a bug with a trophy.

It’s an unfinished disaster.

I have just played through Dying Light and The Following DLC. Still great games 8+ years later. Quality Zombie smashing antics. I used the 1440p 60fps version on the PS5 and it looked great. Oh and it still has fantastic weather/night effects and atmosphere for a 8+ year old game.

Yeah, it's still a really decent game to play - I occasionally dip back in, and started coop with a mate; much laughs with the flying kicks on zombies :D

Infamous Second Son - 9/10

Still looks real good but I think they overdid it with the HDR. When you were surrounded by bright neon, you couldn’t see anything else as it was pitch black. They really ought to do a remaster with ray tracing so the lighting is sorted.

Still a very enjoyable entry in the series. And it didn’t outstay its welcome, I only started it on Saturday morning.

Alan Wake 2 - 9/10

Exceptional atmosphere, graphics, motion capture and a gripping story.

Struggles to hit 60FPS on XSX at times and numerous bugs varying in severity have impaired the overall experience. That said, it's a brilliant game that's dripping in atmos and flair.

Took roughly 25 hours to complete.

Sniper Elite 5 9/10

My favourite of the series, I think. Loved the massive maps. Went into Hitman/Splinter Cell mode by the end rather than far distant sniping but I didn't mind as it was still great fun to try and be stealthy. I played it on PS+ so when the price is right, will pick up the complete edition for another go on PC. I actually didn't want the game to end, which is quite unusual so would like to do the DLC.

Excellent game. And they portrayed guernsey fantastically.

Super Mario Bros : Wonder 9/10

Vibrant, whimsical, creative and entertaining. Best 2D Mario game for a long time. Not as easy as some people would have you believe, at least not to 100%. The optional "special worlds" are quite challenging ! Kept me from playing Spider-man 2 - on to Super Mario RPG now :)
