The last game you completed, and rating (Console Edition)

Viewfinder - a very solid 9/10 for me. It seemingly came out of nowhere, and after 5 minutes with the demo I was sold. It looked great, played wonderfully with no bugs (which is impressive considering what the main gameplay mechanic involves), had a decent little story and a wonderful soundtrack. If you like first person puzzlers like Subliminal, The Witness etc, you'll definitely like this. One of my favourite games of this year so far.

HFW: Burning Shores - 3/5

Great expansion, some interesting missions and new enemies but I can't excuse the amount of bugs in this game.

Kept getting stuck in corridors and had to reload to progress, couldn't call my mount because the game thought I was falling and the game wouldn't let me use my selected weapon in a lot of fights unless I selected another weapon first.

I sold my first PS5 after completing the base game and, therefore, don't have a save of the completed game, so I can't play the expansion. It is crazy that they won't let you start just with the DLC.

Did you have basic PS Plus membership ? If so, there will probably be a cloud save you could use.

Aliens Dark Descent, encountered a few bugs here and there but otherwise one of the most enjoyable games I've played in ages. Nailed the Aliens atmosphere and extremely tense and fun gameplay. 9/10 for me.

Oh I recently finished Metal Gear Solid 4. This game is amazing! Definitely one of my favorites. It actually took me a while, but I didn't struggle with the walkthrough. I wonder if it gets ported on PC or PS5 at least in the future.

Well, I’ve been on a bit of a rollercoaster in the last few weeks.

Finished Diablo 4. It was just a sprint to the end for me as I struggle with always online titles due to how I need to play. Was OK. Interesting enough story but wasn’t really feeling it was a game of the year or anything like that. I did like that it was much more gritty and dark compared to D3 which I always felt was cartoony. Enjoyed my time with it but I doubt I’ll go back. 7/10.

Then I faffed around for a bit and finally started The Last of Us Part 2, after buying it in a sale ages ago. I’d played TLOU remastered part way through a few years back but didn’t finish it. Jumped in with Part 2 having forgotten many of the mechanics and not knowing the back story.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Hard hitting and it went on forever (45hrs for me). I remember there being plenty of controversy at release but I was just not bothered by any of the criticism that was levelled at the game. I really liked it. It was let down by some repetitive gameplay aspects but I really liked how the game had an underlying narrative on the futility of war and really brought the humanity and depravity of characters to light and illustrated the desperate acts we perpetrate due to grief, anger and hate. Solid 8.5/10.

Following that crazy ride I then treated myself to the TLOU Part 1. More of the same goodness although with less polish in terms of the engine and graphics. Enjoyable story but I didn’t connect with it like Part 2. It felt more subtle in places with the story line and themes but it was nice to have come to it having finished Part 2 and picked up on some of the references and locations. Still a solid game and thoroughly enjoyed it but I felt it was a bit short (just 25hrs) and didn’t resonate with me as much as Part 2. Left behind was a nice little extra. Happily give it a 7/10.

Right onto the next game!!

Assassins creed 2 in ezio collection. For me this game has aged terribley. The way the camera changes when you are climbing makes you throw yourself off of buildings at random times. Too many NPCs to get stuck on and combat is horrendous as well. I think I'm just getting old.

2009 was 9/10.
2023 is a 7/10.

The Last of us Part 1. Tbh I was far more impressed with this remaster than I expected to be it is quite an upgrade over even the PS4 remake. It is still the same game at heart which is both good and bad. I really enjoyed playing through again and it's an easy 8/10 from me. I still think Part 2 is a better game but just starting another playthrough of that so will see how I feel this time.

Avoid the DLC, it's naff. Really enjoyed the main game though, and be sure to explore the ship between missions because there are some really good narrative moments and cutscenes you can end up missing.

I keep meaning to buy it in the Steam sale purely just to complete the collection, I hate having DLC missing. But £7 is still too much if it's totally naff. :D

The DLC is crap, they mostly comprise of areas built using recycled assets from the main game, it all felt very cheaply made. I don't think I even bothered finished the third one.

Final Fantasy 16 - 6/10

Cinematic nonsense. Weak & repetitive gameplay elements. Best part is the first 2 hours, which just happens to be what's contained in the pre-release demo. It's all downhill from that point onward. If it wasn't for the high production values, I'd have given this 5 or less out of 10.
