The Last Of Us

A friend let me borrow this and I wasn't sure it would be for me as I didn't like the idea of ammo management and careful and cautious gameplay. I loved the Uncharted games though so went for it.

What I got was one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. Playing this with the lights off and the DTS surround enabled blew me away completely. The combat system is brilliant too. I particularly like the fact that the gun shots are incredibly loud in this. Too many games fail to give you that sense of firing something loud and deadly.

i eventually finished this, i had left it when i was in the hospital before cos that bit was just getting on my nerves.

New game plus only works if you play the same difficulty doesn't it??

I have never even switched on the mulitplayer on it. I think ND left it too late with the DLC for single player. It's not due out till January, by that point everybody will have moved onto PS4

It will take a while for PS4 to be the number 1 platform I think.
Listening to a lot of podcasts I'm hearing journos saying they're generally not that impressed by what they've seen so far, because there are very few projects which are exclusively next gen.

Unless they're sponsored by Sony or MS no studio can afford to ignore the "old" hardware, which limits advances, and it'll stay that way for several years IMO. Because when all's said and done current tech is capable of amazing things (I've just finished Uncharted2, and am amazed how impressive it is at times) and the biggest new feature of PS4/XBO is the social stuff... which is fine if you like that kind of thing.

Sure, the hardware is capable of more effects and higher resolution, but as Last of Us proves, you don't need all that to make an amazing game. So it wouldn't surprise me if there's a substantial wave of early adopters for next gen, then a disappointingly slow (for the suppliers) overall uptake.

Interesting time though, and I'm certainly going to buy single player DLC as soon as it's available. Which isn't my style at all. I'm not an online player and I can be very patient when it comes to saving money for single player experiences.
