The Last Of Us

I appreciate i'm certainly in the minority, but i'm not getting on with this at all.

It 'feels' similar with respect to the, what feels to me, dodgy shooting mechanics that really put me off the Uncharted games. It doesn't help that i'm historically a 360 gamer and i'm much more comfortable with the 360 pad, the DS3 almost feels alien to me.

I've only given it an hour or so, but i'm pretty disappointed so far.

I've played this for a few hours now and I'm just not finding it engaging at all.

It feels far too much on rails for me, like it's holding your hand the entire way through and it just feels too restricted in what you can do. It's put you on a path, and you've just got to follow that path until you get to the next cut scene and see what happens. All of the 'interaction points' (like press and hold to open a door) aren't interesting or engaging, just going through the motions too.

Not really getting the hype unfortunately, I guess it's a game that people play more for the cut scenes than the gameplay.

The first couple of hours are really just a tutorial - the game doesn't start <properly> until:

after the city hall cutscene

So if you haven't reached that point yet, I'd stick with it, at least for another hour or 2.

The shooting is meant to feel awkward; Joel isn't a trained hitman. Once you collect skill points which you can use to improve certain skills, you can remove some of the weapon sway and reduce the effect of recoil. Personally I really liked how awkward the weapons felt, it made you appreciate every shot a lot more.

No, it's a game people play for the story, but it's used both in the gameplay and the cutscenes. The first few hours are fairly linear, but later on the areas do start to really open up and there's plenty of exploring you can do to find ammo, equipment, notes and things people have left behind, and of course quite a lot of optional dialogue with Ellie.

Did I hear the title music on a section of tonights "Dara O Brian's Science Club" its that or something from Babels Sound track (which is the same Artist I think)

Anyone on the forums still playing the multiplayer?

I've just started over the weekend. Currently on week 4, anyone wanna play some matches together I'm tired of all the idiots not working together as a team.

PSN = PLEYOR

Finished it last night and what can I say - mind blown. As someone who has just bought his first Playstation and had a 360 since launch day I have to say LoU has to be one hell of a memorable experience.

The game is by no means perfect and it does betray some of it's core teachings i.e npcs need to stfu when clickers are around but otherwise gameplay I found extremely good. The sheer detail ND incorporated into that world was incredible. I pretty much gawped at the night rain pattering on the window as Ellie looked on from within a small apartment building.

If this is the standard quality of Naughty Dog games (it is my first) then I can't wait to see what they do with the PS4 a few years after its release. Absolute GOTY for me - this is how shoddy Bioshock Inf should have been for pacing. I got bored inside 2hrs on that because it was constant combat just like the previous titles.

Now for NewGame+ !

Last of Us was only my second PS3 game, but it convinced me to get on the PS4 train from day one. I doubt it'll be long before the other Naughty Dog team announce what they've been working on. Forza is the only title on the XBO which tempts me, but as a PC Gamer I have no shortage of exceptional racing sims to choose from.

FWIW Uncharted1 was, for me, a big disappointment after Last of Us. To be fair it's an old title now. But Uncharted 2 is a much, much better product, and is clearly from the same mould as Last of Us. I have no hesitation recommending it. Watch a UC1 walkthrough on YouTube though.:-)

I'm a little late to the table with this one and its also the first game I've bought on the PS3 for sometime. Having just finished it, I'm totally blown away by how incredible an experience it is, if this doesn't pick up every game of the year award and everything in between I'd be shocked.

It's the story and character development that really nails it. Yes it borrows a lot from zombie films and post-apocalyptica fiction such as The Road, The Walking Dead, Half-Life, 28 Days Later etc.... but it does enough to make everything its own, so it never feels like its just a poor imitation of something else. The surrogate Father/Daughter relationship between Joel and Ellie builds so well and does a better job than most films in terms of character development.

I also loved the score, as it is so simple, yet quite haunting and perfectly reflects the beauty of the world, yet the sad undertone of it being desolate. I thought it sounded familiar, so was interesting to see from the credits that its by the same guy who won the Oscar for Brokeback Mountain.

I've preordered an Xbox One, but if a sequel comes out as a PS4 exclusive, I'd be buying one in a heartbeat.

Incredible game.

What was the playtime for you guys?
I clocked it on hard in 20hrs, much longer than I expected, but I spent a lot of time scavenging.
There was also a couple of sections where I took a few goes to realise that it was best to just run, which is a bit of an alien mindset for games these days. Superb game, I'd love a PS4 game based in the same universe, it wouldn't even need to be a sequel.

I took 17/18hrs first play on hard, then lent it to my xbot mate and he finished in like 10hrs on normal, i tried to get him to explore and take in all the back story etc, either way he still loved it

This is the only linear(ish) game that has soo many different times reported by players its great

About 26 hours I think it was. Like you I repeated some sections a few times so I could get a 'good' run of it, and I made an effort to do as much exploring and looking around as I could. Still managed to miss a few things, but that just means I've got stuff to find on my next playthrough.

Really enjoyed Uncharted and thought I'd feel the same about TLOU. However I seem to be having a hard time getting into this. Probably about 2-3 hours in at the moment but not just feeling compelled...
