US: The Leftovers

yea I'm about to give up seems a stupid series how would you even explain what happened in the last 3 episodes without going into the premise of the film?

Just feels like one of those series they make up as they go along

ecclestones American accent was pretty good though about the first British person doing an American accent that doesn't sound absolutely retarded ?

Anthony heads accent in dominion makes me seriously wonder why they would make him do an American accent or just not cast someone else....

I may give more episodes a try but it kind of sounds like they've literally translated how it would go in a book without any thought to how well that would translate to television.

I'm just as likely to get annoyed by people taking liberties with book conversions as the next person but some things literally are not suitable for the screen.

Not sure they will answer the big question, ie. "where the hell did they go?".
They said they were concentrating on the stories of those that were left behind, hence the title.

The problem is, not only are they not answering the question in anyway (which is fine although they should give us something) they're more or less ignoring that the question exists.

At the moment it's just a story about a quirky town in America.

My biggest question is 'Why did they go?' but for some that seems to be answered.

But that's what this week's episode was about, the preacher trying to convince everyone that it wasn't the rapture because a lot of those who went were evil. I think the majority of people are willing to just accept it was the rapture - this is murica we're talking about after all. :D

what I was getting at is that in small town America people would react very differently to the average Brit. Small town America would be all over the rapture while in the UK we'd be blaming it on aliens.

Disappearance/rapture is a good plot hook. But it already suffers from classic Lindeloffism - you are served with good initial mysterious plot starter (global rapture), then nothing of substance happens (try to do synopsis of last three episodes to someone who missed them) to explain the mystery and you are just being lead by the nose with that initial mystery though a minefield of equally unexplained and often dismissed WTF devices (cult of white clothed smokers that don't speak, random dog hunters, etc). The moment you realise that, you know it's journey to nowhere. The best you can hope for is the second rapture or sudden return as a cliff hanger at the end of the season. At the end of the series they will all meet in timeless purgatory and main character will die in a field of bamboo trees with one of the hunted dogs by his side.

It's lost me already, just seems to be an unconnected jumble of separate stories. No back story to anything.

Definite case of people from the back of the plane live on the other side of the island.

They still don't seem to want to concentrate on what should be the main story ARC.

It's passing the time but it's not even frustrating, it's just mildly entertaining.

No reveals, no cliff hangers etc.

I should stop complaining about it really, knowing that I'm still going to watch it every week. :)

One of the most brutal scenes I've ever seen on TV and incredibly realistic, which only made it worse. I still have no idea what's happening but I enjoy this series nevertheless - I think we're supposed to feel clueless :D

yeah, it was very realistic. i think the main bit about it was she reminded me of my mum. that made me feel like wrapping her in cotton wool and not leaving her house :D

that aside, i'm enjoying the show. i'm surprised lindeldouche gets any work after the derp script for prometheus, but he's not doing terribly on this (yet).

waiting for the twist that they're all dead tho :p
