Little injury update from the pre match presser today

Ali expected back for man utd game
Jota started running
Matip, no idea

(Thiago has been taken out back and shot to put him out of his misery i belive)

Reports tonight that Matip's got a knee injury and is likely to be out for several months. Thankfully Quansah's not looked out of place when he's been called upon because I can see him being needed over the next few weeks.

We need to get someone in in January ideally. Arguably more pressing than a DM now, funnily enough. I still like Kilman, although apparently we looked at him in spring and decided not to go with him.

I'd like to see us bring somebody in and thought we should have in the summer too but I'd never bet against Klopp making do until the summer. It'll really depend on just how long Matip is out for, Robertson's possible return (as that will free up Gomez more) and who's available.

Tempting fate here but Quansah's emergence has meant we're not in a desperate situation right now and Klopp certainly has high hopes for him. I'm not sure Klopp realised it was being filmed nor wanted it to go public but Vinny O'Connor (a Sky reporter) put a video on twitter of him being reunited with Klopp after starting covering Liverpool for Sky again - Klopp basically gives him a bearhug and puts him in a headlock before eulogising over Quansah, referring to him as VVD 2.0.

Klopp's confirmed that Matip's done his ACL. That's almost certainly his Liverpool career over. A very sad but probably fitting way for him to bow out. Because of VVD he's probably never got the recognition his performances have deserved because on the whole, he's been outstanding for us over the past 6 years. What always impressed me so much about him was he'd be out injured for x weeks and come back into the side and always just hit the ground running as if he'd been playing week in week out.

Matip was a bit of a liability, not overly confident on the ball, especially under pressure and wasn't as good as tackling back as the likes of Gomez, VVD and Konate. Hate seeing news of ACL though.

I don't think so, he is Virgil's mate and they have a good chemistry but the skill balance is heavily weighted to VVD. He wouldn't make it onto any of the other top four or five teams.
Is he as good as VVD? No but nobody has been. Would he have played in those other sides over the past 5-6 years? Absolutely he would have.

Like most of our squad he was miles off it last season but on the whole over his time with us he's been a fantastic player and the only downside has been his injuries.

Using meaningful stats he doesn't compare better than IK or JG either. It's reasonable to have an opinion but I think stats help that too. His passes completed are actually pretty decent but goals conceded, mins between goals etc isn't just as good as the others, plenty will disagree, that's fine. I'd sooner see Ibrahim or Joe start in front of him.

You do realise we only lost 5 of the 72 pl games they (VVD/Matip) started together? Weird agenda

I'd take a fit Matip over Konate every day. I always feel Konate is a split second behind and is still prone to mistakes and potential yellows every game he plays. I can't see Konate ever being first choice and I'd imagine we will now get a much needed CB, even if just on loan in January as cover. Quansah has been great and if he continues to develop then I can see a Quansah/VVD pairing being Klopp's first choice.

Wow, I can't think of anything so far from reality.
always amused me when he went on one of his runs and then suddenly got about 20 yards from opposition goal and suddenly looked like he needed 5 mins to work out what you do next

Trent out for 3 weeks. We're now down to 3 senior defenders :/ Thankfully he's timed his injury well and is only likely to miss the first leg of the semi and Bournemouth game. Hopefully Kostas and Robertson both could be back by the end of the month and things start to ease up from there.
