Apparently the creators only have rights to the most recent material and nothing before the Hobbit so they will be transposing that years back into the past.

It'll be more of an alternative universe like the startrek Kelvin timeline is my guess.

8m actually not hugely bothered, nothing invested in it personally. It's just the way the cash goes these days :p

Does Token even describe any female dwarves....
"Indeed this strangeness they have that no Man nor Elf has ever seen a beardless Dwarf - unless he were shaven in mockery, and would then be more like to die of shame than of many other hurts that to us would seem more deadly. For the Naugrim have beards from the beginning of their lives, male and female alike; nor indeed can their womenkind be discerned by those of other race, be it in feature or in gait or in voice, nor in any wise save this: that they go not to war, and seldom save at direst need issue from their deep bowers and halls."

Safe to assume Ent and Ent-Wives are next, only two genders of tree people is unacceptable.

The dwarves without beards is just a thing for the screen, same as how all women in post apocalyptic show magically don't have hairy arms and legs. it would be a major pain putting fake beards on every actress and would look pretty ridiculous on screen (and would also make telling characters apart really difficult). I'm fine with changes like that (just as we had dwarves without beards in the hobbit and it wasn't a problem)

It is amusing that people are already so upset about a show that isn't actually out until September. Maybe just wait until you've watched a few episodes before rubbishing it ...? Maybe it'll surprise you, or maybe it won't and it'll be just as bad as 1/2 the people on here think, but ranting about Lenny Henry, beardless dwarves and anything else is just pointless right now. :)

Never read the Wheel of Time books but I did watch the show and agree it was pretty mediocre, but that doesn't necessarily mean that every show Amazon produces will therefore be complete pants. Judging an entire show before you've seen even a single episode is just mad :)

Not this old chestnut again. If you wish to wait and not discuss it you are free to do so.

The thing is, this show is going down the well-worn path of wokeness and diversity as it's driving force, not story-telling, not faithfulness to the Lore, and if anything intentionally gaslighting the fan base (you're all racist if you don't like our show) - so the signs we see already from Amazon's ROP are nothing new and are worrying for those who want a show that reflects Tolkien's Lore and Universe.

And this 'aint it baby...

They absolutely destroyed the Lore and the show was absolute sh_ite. Amazon have so far shown they are absolutely useless creatively, a bit like Google with products, they should stick to their lane.
