The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (Prime)

Never read the Wheel of Time books but I did watch the show and agree it was pretty mediocre, but that doesn't necessarily mean that every show Amazon produces will therefore be complete pants. Judging an entire show before you've seen even a single episode is just mad :)

I don't disagree but lets say the odds based on past performance aren't great. The Boys completely messed up the comic story and ran out of steam super fast because it has no direction. Preacher I liked, some tell me that departed from the comics a fair bit but I don't know as I haven't read them. Good Omens was excellent but stayed fairly faithful if memory serves and revolved around the charisma and star power of Sheen and Tennant. American Gods I watched the first season it wasn't grossly innacurate from memory but didn't compell me to watch it again. The Wheel of Time went off plan stylisitically although was reasonably faithful to high level plot. But every addition they made was generally the worst thing in the episode. Jack Ryan, season 1 superb completely new story, season 2 a car crash that made no sense within the World they'd already built which was a relatively serious.

Amazon are a bit patchy on their adaptions I reckon. I checked the chicken bones this morning and the omens are bad for LOTR: The Rings of Power. My JuJu is not as strong as it once was so I will be happy to be wrong.

edit: bad joke was bad

Preacher was AMC wasn't it? Enjoyed The Boys, although S2 wasn't anywhere near as good as S1. WoT was awful, utterly awful. I did quite like Carnival Row which was an Amazon produced show. Never bothered with American God's, heard S1 was good then got **** really quickly.

I watched the trailer just like everyone else, forced diversity and “wokeness” was not what I took away from it.

so just asking how you came too that conclusion from the limited viewing we’ve had of the show.

Well fair enough, but there's articles out there outlining their vision to paraphrase one quote "We think it only natural a fantasy World should reflect our modern World"...if that makes sense to you then that's fine that's your opinion and I'm not going to change your mind - as I always say if they want to create fantasy Worlds that reflect our modern World - then go and create one.

It's also got to be cheaper than spending 1BN on an IP...

Why is there an Elf with a short modern buzz cut? How does that reflect the established aesthetic of Tolkien's universe? that's just stupid and clearly ingongruent irrespective of skin colour - you've got to see that's not a fit right?

Basically some people want only white actors in this, some are quite happy with anybody being in it (which is apparently 'woke').

really? That’s quite sad really. Not once watching the trailers did the colour of the actors skins stand out to me. As long as they are good at what they do, acting, and play the character they are playing well then what does it matter.

Precisely. The things that folks will bunch their knickers over are stunning.

It's a pretty trailer, I'm tentatively excited, but the trailer doesn't really tell us anything about the things that will really matter: the plot and writing. Until it hits screens, I don't see how anyone can form any kind of worthwhile judgement on it.

yes ****** writing is a symptom of people far more interested in adding 'woke' elements into a story rather than producing anything of quality, glad we agree.

Nope. WOT wasn't really woke, just bad writing and poor mashup of the book story.

At first glance this show doesnt look particularly woke either, just past their time ragers forcing issues where there are none.

I expect this show will be poor, due to again....bad writing.

Pretty much what LotR was based on. War, when Tolkien was in the trenches (from what I watched and read about him) he wrote or mainly sketched out the basic lore of the LotR. He based it on what he saw and experienced. Why not have anything new based on what we see and experience now? I am greatly looking forward to this.

To be quite honest, the female dwarf not having a beard bugs me far more than any racial issue

This. That is one of the most memerable things from reading the books that has stuck in my mind.

Whats wrong with having women with beards appear in it anyway? Isnt that discriminating against women with beards?

To me they missed a massive trick with the dwarves. With male and female dwarves being identical and almost impossible to tell apart and female dwarves went to battle as often as male dwarves, surely the dwarf race was perfect to represent the gender neutral in the modern world?
