The Manchester United Club Thread **Sponsored by Comedy Central**

The excitement for me is slowly drifting away and I'm not looking forward to watching us play.

I think we're rotten, and mentally weak. Buying superstars is failing as we don't have any leaders to give them a kick up the arse when required. Mata is our hardest working player every week, the others should be embarrassed.

I'll be travelling as usual tomorrow but the highlight of a 450 mile round trip is I might get a pint out of it, I see 0-0 bore draw if we manage to keep a clean sheet for 5 minutes.

What angers me though is not one of the players comes to the fans at end of the games to show their appreciation, the travelling fans are fantastic every week, the players just don't care.

I hope most fans see that its the players at fault and i personally would give Mourinho until next Christmas to judge him. Let him clear the decks and get some passion into the club.

MOURINHO WANTS MORE FROM MKHITARYAN

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho admits summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan "has to do more" to earn his place in the team ahead of the Reds’ other attacking options.

Mkhitaryan replaced Marcus Rashford for the final half-hour of United’s Europa League clash with Fenerbahce on Thursday, his first appearance since the Manchester derby in September.

But the Armenian and his team-mates couldn’t prevent a 2-1 defeat in Istanbul that leaves the Reds third in the Group A table with two games left to play.

Asked specifically about Mkhitaryan in his post-match press conference at Sukru Saracoglu, the boss replied: "He has to do more. It’s as simple as that.

"We have big expectations at this club, lots of players for these positions and he has to play better than Mata, Lingard, Martial – he has to play better than them. It’s as simple as that.

"Every manager wants to win matches, every manager in the world wants to play the players that he thinks can help the team more, and I’m no different."

Is he ******* joking? He has to do more than those players who play every week while he isn't even put in the squad? What a ******* clown.

I worry about Mourinho, he's looked completely miserable since joining and just doesn't look like he wants to be there. The fact he's living out a hotel is worrying too, how can you give your heart and soul to a job when you're not willing to settle in the area

"I heard a lot of things that the city is this, the city is that, the weather is like this and the weather is like that but, so far, everything has been good," the striker told United's website.

"The city is the best city so far. I come from Sweden, I don’t have big expectations when it comes to… how do you say it… outside football.

"I’m pretty simple, I’m a family guy. When I was living in Paris, in four years I didn’t go to see the Eiffel Tower once – I wanted them to change the Eiffel for my statue but they didn’t do it. Maybe if they do it now, I will go to visit."

Zlatanthings.

Well on recent history he needs to achieve top four to avoid being sacked at the end of the season and he's probably already got doubts, the big teams aren't struggling like they did last year.

The job is a bit of a poison chalice tbh.

I'm not sure I'd call it a poison chalice, he's had a huge amount of money to invest. If he can't achieve top 4 then he's failed pretty badly.

That's true, I'm still baffled that he thought a couple of marquee signings would be enough but I guess it depends on who is available at the time and what players are at the end of their contract. I think turning things around at United will require 3-4 transfer windows but managers aren't being given the time.

Even then you've still got the issue of Rooney taking up a lot in wages for years to come whilst not really excelling in any position.

You are certainly right in that there is a lot of squad space being wasted at Utd by crud that was always crud + transfers that just havent worked out (like Depay & Schneiderlin for example)

At some point Utd board HAS to give a manager time however (more than one summer transfer, as winter transfers are even more of a lottery for several reasons) and I think Mouinho may be given more time than you suggest - as changing managerial "projects" every year just slows down the recovery process and annoys those players just bought in also. IE doesnt help anyone at all.

It was also a disaster waiting to happen relying on the striker situation on one highly experienced but non EPL striker who is probably on his last "major" contract + an high potential but low experienced teenager (Rashford) + Martial (again effectively a high potential, but low experienced teenager...or there abouts ) who was struggling in the Euros during the transfer window.

Utd still need imo two defenders ( right full back + centre half) + proper defensive mid.....and hopefully Mkhi to come good ....or to be given a chance to come good.....and an experienced but young striker depending on what happens to Martial & Mkhi especially.

I would also build from the back as the defence is leaking way too many goals and just looks shakey generally , and this needs to be sorted before any issues with attack can be sorted (even just one defender + def mid is sorted), but this relies on sales which wont be easy (unless Utd board give the players away, which is unlikely)

edit - I also wouldnt say Mourinho spent a lot of money per se, City still managed to spend more than Utd by about £25m or so and their squad was already better than ours to start with. Without even considering that Pogba was always an investment in the future rather than right now (he was always going to take time to re-adapt to the league and the club / other players around him). Remember its also nothing like a few years ago when Chelsea / Utd / City would spend 3 or 4 times as much in the same window as smaller EPL clubs, thats much more balanced out.

How was Martial struggling in the Euros?

I'm more concerned that Mourinho is alienating players so easily. We've already had Schweinsteiger frozen out, Mkhi frozen out and if reports are true then Shaw and Smalling could follow. Then there was that thing about Martial having his shirt number taken away from him without even telling him. It's kind of concerning.

Hey if you want to believe everything that's said in the papers and walk about in a cloud of doom and gloom that's up to you. Personally I'm of the opinion that it's better to believe it's all made up BS, as most of it usually turns out to be. Like this morning for example the reports of Shaw and Smalling being forced to train separately from the rest of the team when in truth the first team doesn't train on a Monday and Tuesday after a game... players that didn't play and aren't on international duty however do.

Sounds like Mourinho is going to shake things up big time.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is investigating all aspects of first-team affairs after being dismayed at the culture he has inherited at the club.

Mourinho is reportedly unhappy with United's medical department.

But, having succeeded Louis van Gaal in the summer, it is understood Mourinho has found the general culture at United falling short of his expectations.

I'm not surprised that he isn't happy. I'm sorry but the football the past 3 seasons has been utterly dire but with the players we have had we should have been doing much better. Our fitness and attitude seems to just be **** a lot of the time. You watch other teams and they tear around the pitch. They work their socks off. They sprint to support the attacks. We amble about like its a sunday league kick about.

We have had the odd issue for a few years now where we don't have enough players in attacks and then we lose the ball and suddenly we are overwhelmed in defence as well. I could understand it if we committed too many players forwards but we aren't.

I would go along with the attitude (a lot of players cant be ****** ) , but I would have hoped that fitness would have been evident from the first few training sessions / matches - rather than 3 months down the line.

I completely agree. I doubt it is out fitness levels because we don't run out of steam like Liverpool did for a while under Klopp, we simply never get up to speed. We've had the very occasional game where we have come out all gun blazing and simply worked harder than the other team but those have been ridiculously rare.
