Fans only lead towards extremes because that is what the media tells them
The maddest thing about this is the way he regularly has the school meals campaign used as a stick to beat him with as if it has any impact on his performance on the pitch.
I can't say I've ever seen or heard somebody say "yes he was **** but he did help feed school kids" before. I have however seen and heard lots of comments about "if only he spent more time concentrating on football instead of feeding kids.....". It's just mad. It has no impact on his football and why on earth would anybody spin him doing something very noble as a negative to beat him with it? Like I said in my post, he's just become a big exaggeration where he's either better than Mbappe or a disgrace - there never seems to be a middle ground with him for some reason.I would suggest a large part of that is just a retort to the people who will defend Rashford because he did the school meals campaign.
All he has to do is look at Holjund, even when he wasn’t scoring he was knocking his ******** in, chasing, pressing - just generally trying his hardest. Rashford doesn’t even seem to show an ounce of effort when things aren’t going his way.He wouldn't even have to be playing well. He literally just needs to look like he is working for the team. You can swan around and pick your moments to shine when those moments are winning games. When you're not scoring goals as a forward you had better be working your socks off to try.
He doesn't seem to understand that. Fans aren't ****** off because he isn't delivering goals, they are ****** off because he looks like he doesn't give a **** and isn't even doing the basics expected of a professional, let alone someone on his wages.
Normally, I'm in agreement with you because your posts (and Fez) are very sensible and measured. But I can't agree with it being the same. Their job consists of training sessions that then build to a specific time, the game that week. And in our case, it is like one a week now. Fine, maybe not have his head in the right space for a training session or two leading up to it, but come on, Baz, it's 90+ minutes where he has to focus 100%. It's not day in, day out in an office environment or similar AND for insane money. I'm sure I could do my best even if I didn't feel up to it.I'm not going to defend him because he's not played well and there have been times where it doesn't look like he's trying as hard as he could but from time to time I do remember that footballers are humans and just like you or I, sometimes we're just having a hard time and we can't bring ourselves to go the extra mile. I've had plenty of days where I've left things for another day at work because I'm feeling a bit tired or just generally can't be arsed. I'd imagine a PL player that's getting dogs abuse from both the press and supporters sometimes feels the same way too.
As I said, I wasn't trying to defend him as such because he could do more but more trying to look for a reason why he's like the way he is at the moment. And while I accept it's not exactly the same as you or I at work, equally we don't have national newspapers and 1000s upon 1000s of supporters abusing us too.Normally, I'm in agreement with you because your posts (and Fez) are very sensible and measured. I guess. I just think, based on the fact he’s been a footballer a long time, and while it doesn’t make it right, he should sort of have developed a thicker skin by now. And he and his team should know that directly addressing the accusations against his work rate and commitment only stokes the fire more.As I said, I wasn't trying to defend him as such because he could do more but more trying to look for a reason why he's like the way he is at the moment. The one thing I (sometimes) try to remind myself when I'm criticising a players commitment is that the biggest reason why they're a player and I'm a supporter is they were probably more committed than I was to being a footballer while growing up. There must be a reason why that commitment has waned. In some cases money, fame etc might be the reason but I don't really see that in Rashford. Going back some seasons I remember Rashford getting abuse from Utd fans when leaving OT and he reacted to it - somebody that doesn't care wouldn't have reacted the way he did and I get the impression that he struggles with the criticism and abuse he receives.

Reports have emerged that suggest United have identified Dougie Freedman as their top target for head of recruitment, but the MEN understands that is wide of the mark.
United have poached Omar Berrada from City to become the club's CEO and they are set to appoint Dan Ashworth from Newcastle as sporting director.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is expected to make other appointments as his structural shake-up continues and Crystal Palace's Freedman has been linked to a position.
Haven't watched it because its loooong but from the snippets I have seen, hes a good lad. Takes responsibility for his choices and owns up to them.
Just finished watching it. A really good insight. Whilst he was never going to be a Klopp etc but his record wasn't that bad and we played better football than we do under Erik. Generally we are quick to describe players/ex players as legendary but he deserves the monicker - not just for that goal but for the 125 other goals he score. Left foot, right foot, head. A class act and the greatest super sub to play for United. Respect to you Ole.As a neutral that's one of the best episodes yet. The insight is terrific, especially surrounding the transfers at the time. Seems like a lovely, humble guy who owns his mistakes.
I love the rumours going around regarding our potential next manager. Gareth Southgate getting bandied around. Gareth… Southgate… I think I’d honestly stop watching until he was fired.

Iv'e said my piece on Ole plenty, but i'd like to pick up that i think it's slightly miss-sighted to say we played better football under him. I would say i've seen far better interplay and cohesiveness since ETH took over than with Ole.
