Excellent tactic from Amorin really. Skirt with relegation and then next season sees some improvements to mid table and everyone is thrilled!

That would be lucky as our revenue drops and sponsors walk away and we are left with memories like Leeds United because we are unable to compete with buying power of the more established clubs.

Our revenue is great because of past success it can soon go away and the Prem is so big now that there are plenty of other clubs knocking on the door of sponsors etc.

if we could just get to a positive goal difference i'd take that as progression at the minute!

I'm not sure i remember the last time we a net goal difference that was inline with those around us.

This from 22/23 seems pretty usual these days

I think you're greatly over egging the impact a few bad seasons would have. As a global brand United will be massive for a while yet. I don't think our stature has fallen that much considering we've had around 12yrs of mediocraty so far.

I think it's fair to have high expectations, but people should be realising by now that demanding elite results from average players just simply doesn't work. There needs to be a period of reduced expectation which will hopefully allow the 'reset' we all want.

Expectations is such a vague word and yet we use it all the time when it comes to United. This is the part thats baffling about the club. The expectations ultimately are to be winning things but the basic expectations are that players give their all for the club. Thats the expectation at every club. There is little unique about that at United.

I'm sure a psychologist would love to look at United over the past decade because expectations for trophies has rarely actually been that high. Certainly not for years at this point. The expectation that players work hard and do their best though? That is always there and so often the entire squad falls below that mark. I assume its related to the pressure they feel playing at United because you get less flack for being low key rubbish than you do for being obviously rubbish. Why else are players hiding from passes? Why do they rarely play the lower percentage pass that has massive upsides vs the safe pass back or sideways?

I don't think United fans are arrogant or expect to win things because we used to. We expect to be winning things because we spend so much ******* money on players and we are the biggest club in the country and one of the biggest in the world. Its not that we expect to win by default, its that its embarrassing when you aren't even in the discussion despite spending as much/more than everyone else and being in a dominant market position. Its the expectations that people have of those who have all the tools to be successful but aren't.

On the topic of expecting elite results from average players, I would say that what we have are not average players. They are good players. We see this fleetingly. We have good-ish league results in random years and honestly those years don't necessarily relate to the squads I would say hold the most quality. Our issue is application and mental toughness. There are so many anecdotal quotes from people/players around the club that suggest its been a joke for far too long when it comes to the playing side of things.

I think Amorims expectations are sky high for these players and I think that if we can bring in the right players with the right mentality, the others will fall in line. You need success at big teams to build momentum and belief. If he can do that, he will be fine. Our recruitment for far too long doesn't seem to have cared a jot about player temperament or personality and its just killing us.

Is Casemeiro definitely on his way out? He's posted on Facebook yesterday saying thank you Old Trafford. But of a random timing but i can't see in the mdeia that he's got a confirmed club elsewhere.

The last I heard on Casemiro is that he is very happy here collecting £350k/week and he intends to see out his contract.

Yes, my disgust and frustration is aimed primarily at the mismanagement and sheer waste of money. It has to go down in the history books doesn't it? A fall from grace.

For all we moan at the loan payments, money has been spent, just very badly.

No team has a right to win anything but in a business where money tends to buy you the best players/facilities/managers things should be a lot better. Having spent £1bn (is it 1.2 now?) the club should not have a leaking roof and should not be facing a potential relegation battle.

If a £200m (plucked out of thin air) spend in summer will hopefully push for top 10. Do they need another £2-300m the year(s) after to get into top 4? Where are they going to find the money?

Having said all that, we have won trophies in recent years (you can't take that away from EtH) which is more than a lot of teams, so we should remember that.

In theory that should have us pushing for more than top 10. Our squad isn't that bad. It needs work in key positions but I think the issue at the moment is that we are missing all the key positions Amorim needs so things just aren't working. If they start to work I think things should improve quickly.
