The Manchester United Club Thread **Sponsored by Comedy Central**

This all stems from an article in The Mirror though, from I can tell?

Either way, they all deserve a good kick up the backside.

The Mirror, The Sun and the Daily Mail. The exact sources are people who do get leaked information, like David McDonnell. And let's be honest, given the embarrassing attitude of our squad, it's almost certainly true.

Sky have been 'briefed' by the lazy players now too. God forbid the poor little darlings are being asked to work harder.

Some Manchester United players in doubt over Ralf Rangnick's suitability to be Old Trafford boss

There are cliques within the Manchester United dressing room, a source has told Sky Sports News

Some Manchester United players are struggling to adapt to interim manager Ralf Rangnick's methods and doubt whether he is the right man to be in charge at Old Trafford.

There are cliques within the United dressing room, a source has told Sky Sports News, adding that some of the players are finding it difficult to play in Rangnick's 4-2-2-2 formation.

Another source has told Sky Sports News that "they have the players at Manchester United who are ready to play, but they don't have the coach to get the best out of those players".

I doubt it will happen, but it would be great if we started throwing some money around and shipping players out who are unhappy right now (or just make them train with the U23's).

We could quite easily remove the likes of Lingard, Martial, Henderson and a few others. Bring through a few younger players who will actually work hard for a start, Savage, Iqbal, Mejbri, etc. Same for some staff, why is Phelan still here? Remove him, borrow some youth team coaches if needed.

Then activate some release clauses, like Amadou Haidara for £30m~ who Rangnick likes, Ruben Neves for £35-40m, Boubacar Kamara, that would immediately improve the midfield situation.

I think Rangnick and Murtough have got to strike quickly here and try and force some sort of mentality change at the club almost overnight. It's a tall order but not impossible.

I genuinely can't see the current squad suddenly putting the work in when the performances have been this bad and there's all this moaning going on. Assuming these leaks are even half right, this is an almost unprecedented situation.

He's been in the dugout most games shouting at the players from the touchline. Quite unusual for Technical Director, I personally don't think it's ideal...

I think he's supposed to be assisting Murtough (the actual Director of Football).

And so when I asked what Rangnick had won previously and was told in chorus he was like the godfather of modern football and to shut up it seems after just 5 games the feel has changed somewhat.

I hear his crony sports psychologist is working wonders.

Who else was he due to bring in, a 75 year old guggenpresser?

Not at all. Nobody is blaming Rangnick. The players are just a dreadful bunch.

I'm still waiting for you to tell us who you'd have appointed instead? Bet you won't answer.

No one is blaming him for 4222 or picking players who arent performing?

Wow

There's a few high profile obviously Conte being one.

If we brought in Rangnick to then take Poch at the end of the season we are done. If he can't control the dressing room at PSG how will he at UTD.

Stupid plan.

Ultimately the formation doesn't matter if the players won't make any effort.

Conte wasn't available. Who else?

I don't think anybody could control this dressing room.

It mattered enough that we had to change vs wolves.

I've already pointed out that our performances, goals per game etc have been shocking under Rangnick against all the bottom clubs who literally get clobbered for 4 or 6 each week.

Pretty sure he was and went to Spurs?

He went to Spurs before Ole was sacked.

They should have sacked Ole during the international break and appointed Conte if they wanted him. I would have been fine with that.

Then again, the players would have probably imploded under Conte too.

Not buying that Pogba story without better sources. I think he'll just leave.

A costly mistake but no point making it even worse by giving him a new contract.

I'll offer my thoughts on some of our squad...
  • De Gea - absolutely fine.
  • Henderson - appears to be rocking the boat a bit as a no.2 - not good enough, let him go.
  • Lindelof - very average, OK as a squad player.
  • Bailly - far too injury prone to be useful, often erratic anyway.

  • Phil Jones - injury prone and not a particularly good player. Not sure why people are suddenly eulogising him.
  • Harry Maguire - comically overrated and a poor captain. Can do a job but not at the top level.
  • Varane - should be fine if he stays fit.
  • Luke Shaw - poor attitude by all accounts, seems to cause squad issues, not really that great a player.
  • Alex Telles - seemed to do well but hasn't had all that many chances, prefer him to Shaw.
  • Wan-Bissaka - good at tackling, poor at everything else. Not going to be good enough.
  • Pogba - ruins the squad, a drain on resources, and must leave at all costs. Such a pity as he's got fantastic ability, but we only see it 1% of the time.
  • Mata - effectively collecting a pension now. Nice guy, but that's about it.
  • Lingard - waste of space, was never going to be good enough at the top level, should have left years ago. Seems to be the source of a lot of leaks.
  • Amad - not really had a chance yet.
  • Fred - I don't mind Fred, think he'd be good as a box to box in a midfield 3.
  • Matic - past it and has to go.
  • McTominay - seems to be improving all the time, showing a lot of promise. No guarantees though.
  • Bruno - one of the best players around, complete drama queen though. Think he'll be fine when the team is in a better place.
  • Donny - I still don't think he's had a fair chance yet. He must be a car crash in training. Strange.
  • Martial - see Pogba.
  • Rashford - seems to have quit football and not told anyone. Great player, years ago. Needs to get himself sorted out.
  • Greenwood - excellent.
  • Cavani - needs to go in the summer but fine for now.
  • Sancho - has great ability, just needs to start using it. Sooner rather than later, but not too worried considering the state of the squad in general. Nobody is really playing well.
  • Ronaldo - great to have him here, like Bruno, a drama queen. I think in a team playing well he's still one of the best strikers around. Not a useful player at the moment when the squad is struggling, though.

Robbo - In defence of Phil Jones, for him to go through mental hell for ages and then to suddenly start a game with all eyes/media on him and to deliver a v good performance (anyone could have headed the ball away like he did), I think he deserves more time especially considering the other CB options.

I understand all of that. However, let's be honest, he was never particularly good, and regularly injured. Nothing really to do with his performance vs Wolves, which wasn't bad.

The fact he's comparable to the other centre backs says far more about them. :(

Ideally, Rangnick should have come in as a Sporting Director. In terms of him as a manager, it's extremely difficult to implement new ideas when you are on a 6 month contract. Players know you'll be gone in a few months.

The fact of the matter is, the squad isn't balanced and we have too many players who won't put the effort in. So here we are.

The whole football operation needs fixing, if the board won't let Rangnick sign players or have much input, we are quite frankly finished as a top club. Money alone will not fix this.

I have no idea who sanctioned the Amad deal, but considering the glaring deficiencies in midfield, buying attacking prospects doesn't make much sense. Especially as we usually end up losing money on them in the end.

The frustration is that for the best part of a decade, we have not truly attempted to fix the glaring issues in midfield, and without that, we'll never see much consistency.

There's been talk today that the club will potentially look at appointing the new manager sooner rather than later.

3 names are primarily mentioned: Pochettino, Ten Hag and (more tentatively) Rodgers.

... I don't think any of them will be available before the end of the season.

James Ducker also said that Fletcher and SAF have decided we should go for John McGinn in the summer, for £50m+... brilliant.

We don't really know what's going on, but so far, things aren't sounding great.

I think we should forget about 'big name' signings for now. We need a complete review of every player at the club, and a new way of thinking is needed...

Imagine that.

Isn't that why Ragnick is there? You were all cheering the appointment 6/7 weeks ago and now half of the Man U fans here want him gone, bonkers.

No they don't? The vast majority of fans are behind him and don't like the players.

Rangnick is a great appointment from a director of football perspective, there was no obvious interim appointment that would have done much better, so to get Rangnick who can then advise at a higher level is ideal.

That being said, if the club won't listen to his advice, then it's all futile.

Can't disagree with any of that, I posted my thoughts on the squad in post #2120. I personally think it would be nice if we could accommodate Ronaldo, but as you say, this team is going to struggle to do that effectively.

I think Rangnick has pointed out a few home truths which have been met with resistance not only from the squad but the board too.

If we want top 4 we need at least one new centre mid in this month. Haidara/Zakaria would do.

No idea what's going to happen, we'll just hope for the best, but expect the worst :p

Imagine if Potter walked into this club. The players would openly revolt as he's 'not achieved anything', and the board would fail to support him.

Someone needs the chance to overhaul the squad in its entirety, as well as the football operation higher up. Rangnick can do that, if he's allowed.
