US: The Mandalorian

Finally! Considering it's flight orientation, I've always wondered how the internal design of Slave I functioned. Now I know.

And so glad they used the seismic charges in an atmosphere, as if you read up on how they function they simply wouldn't have worked in the asteroid field like in AotC.

Lets pretend that is why it didn't obliterate not just the TIE fighters but Slave I and everyone on the ground nearby as well... as it would have done based on the movie version.

Dear lord. I squealed like Frog Lady when that Seismic Charge dropped! I was waiting for the bassline massive to drop on my soundbar's sub but it wasn't all that :o

Oh, episode was too damn short!

Good episode.
The formula of car chase ambush is getting worn out but this was none the less, still cool :p

Bill Burr was great. I'd love to see more diolouge from an imp pov.

Any of you guys played SWG when it came out?
Does the now cyborg bounty hunter wear the mimbari armour weave that zam weasel wears in attack of the clones?

I know I have butchered the names and spellings but I'm on the move and don't have time to Google spellings.

Good lord I love those seismic charges that fett drops. Another brilliant episode. With this quality I can’t wait for all the other Star Wars series announced.

Next weeks episode is going to be good!

Well screw me sideways, that was a decent episode! The pace was good, the script was solid with a good performance from Bill, the level of dumb stuff our heroes did was at least tolerable vs other episodes, and overall it was just as close to a well written and well directed episode as I have seen in Season 2. In fact I would say that it's a clear winner so far. I hope the finale ends on a really good note that makes me feel less annoyed about how poor most of this season has been in comparison!

Rick Famuyiwa directed this episode... I wish there was more consistency in seasons as I hate the fact so many different directors have done so many episodes. That kind of inconsistency is what ruined the last half of The Witcher for me too.

Edited to correct my statement about the director.

Did I not pay attention or something?

Wtf is Rhydronium? Who are these 'pirates' and why do want to blow it up? And why are they armed with crappy sticks but have hover crafts in their arsenal alongside a seemingly abundant supply of thermal detonators? I take it they have no real agenda here and their role is just to fulfil the 'mindless action' box?

And let's all try to repeatedly bust open the rhydronium container and place a bomb inside, instead of just simply slapping one on the side truck to get the job done. Zzzzzz

The base bit was also sheer textbook nonsense. The moment Bill looked sheepish, turned his back after already being clocked by an officer, the game is up. Not here though. I can't be bothered to break it down step by step, but really are you kidding me? I mean the fact that said officer wound up breaking bread with them when it became immeasurably obvious that something was amiss beforehand, actually had me in disbelief (despite being in check with the typical past episode absurdities). So much so I didn't really fully tune back in until he just shot the guy dead, and then shot everyone else dead of course.

And Burnin Konn? Just wtf. Oh a planet ruined by mining or something. Well done for being deliberately vague and making me look it up, rather than subtlety explain to the audience.....Lmao yeah right!

Anyway I think it was slightly, marginally better than the usual dross. Some scenes enjoyable actually. But overall, it's still just not good enough.

I would make an honest woman out of you. <3 :D

Your recent over applause has now given me some concern. Perhaps this is a tell-tale sign of a filthy cheat! :D

Well I agreed with your sentiments above when you wrote why we can all give critical opinions, but I can't agree with your overwhelmingly negative sentiments here for this particular episode.

I'm not sure why you care to be told what Rhydonium is... if the Imperials are mining it in large quantities then it's obviously going to be related to weaponry/fuel. As for why the Pirates wanted to blow it up instead of take it, you can reasonably assume that without fuel to power the starships then they can't catch and attack pirates with TIE fighters and other ships. The really stupid thing with the pirates, other than their suicidal activating of thermal detonators all at once to get that 'cool action shot', was that they didn't have laser blasters and just walked ahead to be shot. Of course that bothered me, but at the moment I EXPECT this kind of writing as should be clear from my posts regarding Episode 2.

For all its faults though, including the cringey behaviour inside the refinery by Bill Burr and Mando, this episode WAS notably better than the previous episodes in almost every conceivable way... but that's a sign how bad the previous episodes in S2 have been vs S1. This episode actually made some effort to be a little more meaningful and engaging, even if the execution was still sub-par. The script was a clear step up above anything before it (again, all in context here) and actually made a bit of effort to dig into some Star Wars battle history and provide some motivation and insight into an imperial officer to show that yes, they are cowardly bloodthirsty curs and also that some are delusional and unhinged by what they have done. The location was also beautifully shot.

I enjoyed this episode far more than any other, it engaged me and captured my imagination, and in a season that has to this point been so poor I will take that with open arms to alleviate my dissappointment. :D

And I thought we had something special... *sobs quietly*

As Mando and Burr pass through the village I'm sure there is some comment about neither Republic or Empire caring about indigenous people. I assumed the "pirates" as the Imperials called them were actually locals who were attacking the convoys to try and make mining unprofitable/too difficult so they'd bugger off.

While what you say is feasible, the locals in the villages were pretty much all Asian-looking humans living in poverty and the pirates were bloodthirsty aliens with access to large quantities of thermal detonators. I doubt they were working together.

It's a bit (see: very) daft that TIE fighters/speeder bikes were not constantly patrolling the transport routes and that regular checkpoints with Stormtroopers and speeder bikes were not set up on the routes to protect the invaluable cargo (that powers their biggest starships) against raiders... but yeah that would be expecting way too much from the writing of this show. :D

There’s quite a bit of criticism of the writing in this series, sometimes rightly so. I struggled with season 1 for a similar reason until I realised that if you view each (far too short) episode as a live action cartoon in much the same vein as Clone Wars and Rebels then each episode becomes much more tolerable. The timings, the script and even the action scenes are pretty much as you’d expect from an episode of one of the cartoon series.
