US: The Mandalorian

Yeah, so in the grand timeline of things, Mandalorian is still set some 25yrs'ish BEFORE The Force Awakens and is firmly placed after events of Return of the Jedi. Vader is long gone obviously and Luke has honed his Jedi training to perfection.

After Ep6, I always wanted to see more of his fighting and the skill he'd honed to see the destruction of all who oposed him. I'm so glad they've given us more of that, I want more, but that'll do.
I'm hoping we'll see more of the gaps between the trilogys. More of Ridley, for example, would be amazing!

Plenty of fun but I didn’t think it was as good as some were making out. Again, there was zero threat the entire time. The episode with Bill Burh (sp?) was far better IMO. I swear Mando has basically picked to play the story on easy mode, those storm troopers are absolutely hopeless! :D

There is also a few other shows coming including the Andor show based on the character from Rouge One.

The main unresolved thread from this season was the dark sabre, the Mandalorian planet and the protagonist referred to but not yet seen

Not sure if it's going to be part of this show or the Ahsoka spin off but
She was looking for Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Pfft, mixed feelings about the last episode...

  1. 1) The plot armour in this show is just ridiculous. There is never any tension in this show because no-one of any importance gets a scratch that can even be remotely deemed life-threatening even when faced with overwhelming odds and a wall of blasters.

    2) So many enemies were reduced to a joke, beyond what they were in the original Star Wars. They have taken the "stormtroopers can't shoot" spiel that was in the movies and exaggerated it by tenfold. A more hapless bunch of cretins you will never see, to the point where it annoyed me.

    3) The intro and use of Luke Skywalker was done in such a lazy way that felt like fandom circle-jerking shoehorned into the show. Even the battle scenes where he cut his way through all of those Dark Troopers like chaff were just rubbish... couldn't they have put a bit of effort into making him actually look Superhuman, instead of just downgrading the Dark Troopers to the level of regular battle droids and then him just lazily cutting his way through with minimum effort? It was so underwhelming I was just sighing in disappointment.

    4) Luke's CGi face also lacked any emotion, he was uncharacteristically flat, expressionless and robotic. What they should have done was had a real meaningful moment as he picked up Baby Yoda where the classic Star Wars music started playing and he saw brief flashbacks to Yoda and you saw him become momentarily choked with emotion. That would have been Star Wars.

Overall, I figured out what The Mandalorian is missing for me, in comparison to the original Star Wars trilogy. Gravitas. The actors have no damn gravitas. Almost everyone except Pedro Pascal feels like some cheesy and corny part-time actor who does not belong in a show of this supposed calibre and definitely doesn't suit the role they are playing. Even Giancarlo Esposito, who was immense, sinister and threatening as Gus in Breaking Bad, felt entirely toothless and out of his element in this show as Moff Gideon. They even tried to unsubtly tried to dress him like 'Darth Vader without a helmet' to no effect. It only confirms my view that this second season was badly cast, written and directed.

Speaking of the directing... multiple directors with different styles and visions in what is supposed to be a coherent show with an overarching story arc is a bad thing and I will rarely think otherwise. The lack of consistency very negatively impacted The Witcher in the last half of Season 1 and it was especially pronounced for The Mandalorian throughout Season 2. Just get one good director who has the vision needed and let them see it through to the end with commitments to one style and vision.

Mandalorian Season 1 was superior, it was a taste of the old Star Wars that had me nodding my head in appreciation and it didn't try too hard to impress while doing what it did. In comparison all Season 2 has done, with it's shoddy writing and screenplay and overuse (bordering on abuse, even) of so many tropes, is make me immediately want to go and watch the original trilogy to remind myself why I love Star Wars, which I am going to do next week.

I am not especially hopeful for this Bobba Fett spinoff, considering how **** Boba Fett has been this season. Of course, I will still watch everything as it's Star Wars and there is a small core of optimism in my heart that thinks one day we will get something truly great again. Or maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment. :D

I only really found that in the last episode - he kind of lost the edge as the episode went on. I just don't think the character was involved enough in the show to really develop it to the level needed.

The show just needs to be longer. I dont care for more episodes but they need to be giving us 45 minute episodes minimum really. Its hard to slow things down and give more time to characters when your constantly racing against the timer.

This is also very true, they need to be closer to an hour each.

I don't think so.

This Book was called the Child and has now finished. Not even sure we'll see Djarin in the next book.

100% Djarin will be in other shows or will have a second book after Boba story is finished.
I was wrong. Two shows :) somebody from LA says it's two completely different shooting schedules.

That last ten minutes was what i have waited thirty seven years for. Luke in the black with the green sabre all master jedi, literally in tears from the moment that shot of the Xwing coming in.

When he dropped the hood to reveal the same person i knew all those years ago, total breakdown i had to remove the VR set to save the lenses. If only they'd found a way to do that in any of the later films.

Yes, my favourite episodes 1, 5 & 8 were also the only ones over 40mins.

Those that want some excellent back story on Ahsoka Tano and a bit on the Mandalorian history should watch Star Wars: The Clone Wars the animated series.

I've heard a lot of interviews and i don't know in which but i'm pretty sure that they are going for crossovers and a core storyline that will combine all ala "infinity war" style.

For that to work though surely they would need a big enough threat or theme?

i dunno how well this will work... Of course with the right people it will be glorious. I think Disney have learnt their lesson and are letting the proper people make it now. Just hope they dont run out of material so that it starts getting ultra cliched and naff.

The problem with all of this, as good as the feels this series gives me, it just twisting the knife EP.8+9 stuck in. It's like, see they can do it right?! So why did they balls it up?
