It’s really, really bad. The few interesting ideas (re the new state of affairs in the real world) are only briefly explored and it just fails on sooo many levels.
It fails aesthetically, the cinematography looks made for TV and has no iconic shots. It fails at casting (I liked Bugs though). It fails at being meta. It fails at trying to be funny about being meta. It fails at fight choreography (although that might just be the dire camerawork). It fails at having a story that makes much sense, if any. It’s guilty of all the things it has characters clumsily preaching to the audience about. I can’t believe a certain actor actually agreed to his bit-part.
It’s all really weird and abysmal. I don’t know what Lana Wachowski was thinking. Like I get the old trilogy wasn’t the height of deep philosophy and generously borrowed ideas from lots of other films but this is just… what did I just watch that had Neo and Trinity in. It’s bizarre.
