I never minded the 'sound' on St. Anger. The drums just sounded 'gritty' and the album as a whole has that sort of 'sloppy recorded first take' character. The rattling of the drum kit on 'Some Kind of Monster' is bad though.

St. Anger sounds way better than Death Magnetic. That is really badly mixed.
 
It's the snares specifically, they have this atrocious ringing "mic was inside a metal bin being battered with a club" sound.

I think most if not all the Death Magnetic tracks had unmastered 'stems' on a version of Guitar Hero so quite a few people on the internet have made their own remastered versions of it.
 

Whenever I've heard Parkway drive before I've thought it was horrible metal-core but I am hooked on this new song that i heard the other day. The guitar melodies are great and even though the vocals are still shouty they really work with this song and sound great.
 
What was that further up the thread about chugging being old hat and we should all move on? Well what ********! A good heavy chug is timeless, all hail the CHUG!

does anyone know a good site for metal tshirts and stuff? found a few sites but they have a pretty limited selection of long sleeves which I personally prefer.
