Has anybody mentioned the new Megadeth album?
It's superb -

I was liking it until I realised they have taken two Demo tracks from the Youthanasia remaster and stuck them in the middle of the album. I'm not happy about it because they haven't even made it clear to anyone. The songs were written almost 20 years ago... they must be running out of material.

They are both good tracks, but other than them and the opening track they wrote for Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, I think the rest of the album is pretty average. You can tell they were written a long time ago too because they don't fit with modern Megadeth style. Both written around the Rust in Peace era I think (New World Order & Millennium of the Blind)

Well the Metallica album is still one of the best recorded albums ever.
I also prefer Justice but I would love them to record it with the Metallica album settings.

The Bass in Blackened is really prominent, in the slow part I think too loud! Then after that there isn't much bass :L

I actually think MOP has awesome production, I think all the instruments sound great.

From what I've heard from AJFA, the guitars sound huge but there is definitely no bass going on there. Also the drums are right up and in your face. I don't know if I prefer it to MOP, but it sounds more aggressive.

I finally got AJFA. God damn the title track is frustrating. After blasting out possibly the best intro I have heard from any song (the super harmonised guitar part), we get a series of chord stabs that begin a totally redundant part of the song (complete with silly random Beatles-The End drum segment) almost until the singing begins...

Nooo why did they have to follow something so awesome with something so meh :(

I personally think that the Black Album was Metallicas pinnacle both artistically and production wise. It was a wonderfully cohesive album that you can listen to end to end without feeling the need to skip a song. Brilliance of a faded and banal band that has gotten too full of themselves to accept that they might've lost their way. Although it sounds like they may have a inkling of this in that they're going to perform all of the Black Album...

You may mock Mr Poole but how many drummers have you lost due to spontaneous combustion, a lot i reckon!!

Between 2000 & 2007 we had 8 drummers and one of them did die and the others were just knobs.
The drummer we've had for the last 4 years doesn't act like a drummer - weird.

Can posters please call Metallica's 5th album by it's proper name please?

I'm outraged

Raaaaaaging... It's widely recognised as the Black Album, and it saves typing Metallica Metallica all the time or just calling it Metallica because that wouldn't be at all confusing.
Yeah I like that Metallica album.
Oh which Metallica album is that.
You know Metallica...
Yeah I know Metallica but which one...
Metallica!
Oh you mean the Black Album?
Yeah it's called Metallica...
Oh why didn't you just call it the the Black Album?
Because it's called Metallica, you should call it by it's correct name otherwise Lars will get butthurt over it...
Lars gets butthurt over everything, one more person calling their self titled album by a name that everyone else recognises is not going to effect him one iota so if he doesn't care then why should the fans?
Ah ok... fair enough...
Rage on...

... on a side note - can you be inraged? (enraged aside)

You know, for all the sillyness - Metallica Metallica (AKA the Black Album) is a seriously good listen. Just working my way through it again and the chunkiness of that guitar sound in 'Sad But True' is just Epic and between 'Don't Tread on Me' and 'My Friend of Misery' there are some of my all time metal favourites. It's such a good cohesive and well produced album.

I remember me and a mate bought it on day of release on cassette, we both whacked it in our walkmans and walked back to the local cafe a mile away, listened to half the album before we both looked at each other in a "bloody hell this is good!" kinda way :D
