I remember there was at least one other nuke before the big 2002 nuke.

I distinctly remember being peeved because I’d slowly built a sizeable post-count after the earlier nuke and then the same thing happened again!

Ahh what happened in the October 2002 nuke? Did the forum software get changed and anyone had to make new usernames?

When did the original forum open? A couple of people in this thread said they've been on here for 20+ years.

The database was so badly corrupted that the only real solution was a complete blitz and rebuild. The mod team at the time were all pre-registered so that nobody pinched our names.

I was always puzzled by that as my join date says 2006 yet I was around for the pre nuke and after. At one point one of my posts was in a sticky post in the graphics section that was older then my join date but after 2002.

Ah that makes sense now, I was pretty sure I'd joined around that time, albeit I didn't post too regularly. Then I took a look again years later and couldn't find the username I'd had, don't think I have the e-mail address anymore either, was probably an old telewest or freeserve one or something so I registered with this one.

I also remember desperately worrying whether my username would be taken before I could register again Luckily I managed to get it.
