The pic of the forum on the wayback machine is not even the really old, pre-vb one;)

That was a black background the avatars were guns and the mod's areas were protectected by a secondary password as IIRC the forum permissions didn't allow for moderator only areas by default!

IIRC the "big nuke" was 2002, the forums were hacked in early 2001 which resulted in a change in software to VBB, and pre 99 or 00 the forums were shared with another site?

The one with the gun avatars is the one I was asking for a screenshot of, I remember seeing one ages ago!
 
I think I joined in the autumn of 1999, I think my user name was Ridcully back then. I moved to the US around the time of the big nuke and didn't re-register. Finally joined again when I came back to blighty.
 
I just checked and apparently July 23rd was my 10th anniversary. 10 years ago I was asking if it was worth upgrading the AGP graphics card in my little ghetto box pc because I was too broke to upgrade all my IDE hard drives and build a new system :p
