There is a non 3D version (Samsung 700G7C-C01UK) with an Ivy bridge cpu, 16GB ram, 1.5TB storage (two drives) and Nvidia 675M graphics card (rebranded 580M) .

and the 3D version (Samsung 700G7A-S02UK) (120Hz screen, comes with the active 3D glasses) with a Sandy bridge cpu, 8Gb ram, 2TB storage (two drives), AMD 6970M GPU.

Also yes you can turn the 3D off at any time you want and turn it on as you want too.
Both laptops performance is about the same and the 675M Ivy bridge version is no more than 5-10% faster in general.
Just decide what features you need and want really both are great laptops and decide really which drivers you get on well with AMD or Nvidia, I have the AMD version and it's great but as I said both laptops are great I liked having the 120Hz screen and the option of 3D for movies and gaming when in the mood. I can always add another 8Gb Ram to make it 16Gb for £30 and the 5-10% speed difference for the Ivy/675M is not here or there for me and won't be noticed in real world use, but the 120Hz screen is noticable in real world use to me. Also the AMD version is on a special at moment on here and remember you can claim back the VAT on both laptops with Samsungs offer at the moment.

I find 120Hz easier on the eyes and even on the desktop the mouse and windows being moved about are much smoother and you don't get the ghosting I find some 60Hz screens do. It really depends on your eyes and what/how you see mate.
the 120Hz screens are newer tech in general, but I can't comment on "richer/more vibrant colours? Sharper display? etc" because I have not seen both laptops together to really compare that. All I know is the colours and black levels on mine are great which is the AMD version with 120Hz screen.
Also with 120Hz you can always leave V-sync on and not worry about it, because it will try sync at 120Hz/frames a sec and even if a game can't hit it it will go down to the next level which will still be higher than 60Hz/frames a sec in most games. Games I find on a 120Hz screen move smoother and seem to be running faster and more natural to me.
Remember memory is cheap £30 to add another 8GB to the laptop. The ivy version with a 675M the cpu is no more than 5-10% faster in real world use and same for the 675M GPU. Like I said before up to you if you like AMD or Nvidia more for their drivers. Both laptops performance really is about same apart from the screens and 3D or not 3D. Also the Ivy Bridge version has 1.5TB 7200RPM drives(750Gb x2) in and the Sandy Bridge has 2TB 5400RPM drives (1TB x 2). Rememebr both have the 8GB SSD to speed up loading and starting up. I had mine in RAID to speed up the performance of the drives and then tested with RAID off and it was hardly worth the effort to have RAID and maybe lose valuable data in the long run if one drive fails, so I removed the RAID in the end.
So think about it this way ... :-
Do you need 2TB
Do you like Nvidia drivers more than AMD (Remember Nvidia has PhysX and Cuda support, so if you need any one of these you have to go Nvidia)
Do you see the difference from a 60Hz screen to a 120Hz screen
Would you like to try 3D gaming and movies, can be really fun and i'm not a massive 3D fan and was surprised how good the screen was and the 3D and enjoyed watching movies and gaming on it from time to time.
Is the 5-10% performance gain and slightly faster drives, extra memory from the Ivy/Nvidia laptop worth losing 120Hz screen, 3D glasses and extra storage space.
You will have your answer once you look at it that way. Both are great laptops mate and the memory is a non-issue really you can easily add another 8Gb Ram for £30 and if it's for gaming only you will not even need the extra 8Gb Ram because not many games can access more than 4Gb as we speak.
Yep totally agree, that is the way to look at it.
