The most irritating band ever?

Ooo, tough one.

Surely the Kaiser Cheifs have to be right up there. They had one admittedly decent track (I predict a Riot), but this one makes me want to punch people. It's just so bad! Just, wow, holy crap! It's like it was made in 2 minutes - just listen to the lyrics. It actually boggles my mind.

Hot Chip were loved by one of my house mates - clearly this is a 'horses for courses' thing, because I just didn't get it either and felt the exact same way as the OP.

By possibly the winner for most irritating, or most accurately the most frustrating band is easily Radiohead. They could release a collection of sounds of cutlery clashing together in a 17/89 time signature and get away with it. Kid A was a great album of experimentation but what has followed is truly terrible. I remember that I used to listen to it during my 'I'm so cool and alternative' stage. I look back and laugh at how pretentious I was as well as the music that the band has produced. I just don't understand why they insist on releasing music that is so thoroughly unpleasant and dissonant when I consider them to have made some of the greatest music ever heard.

Listen to this gem:

It sounds incredibly pig-headed to say so, but I almost think that some Radiohead fans develop a musical superiority complex to make up for their own inferiority complexes. I probably did.

Nitefly, what was wrong with In Rainbows? I thought that was a pretty easy to listen to album for Radiohead, not much in the way of Kid A-esque electronic sounds, just songs that were different from previous stuff, and some quite beautiful when heard in the flesh.

When I hear people slating RH I can understand that for the Kid A - HTTT era.
^^I agree on These Are My Twisted Words Though, it's not a "nice" song at all.

Fubsy, you have pointed out to me an unforeseen but valid flaw in my opinion - I haven't actually listened to In Rainbows.

The reality was that I was so repulsed by the previous albums that I couldn't even bring myself to download the album for free when I had the chance. I heard a couple of snippets and wasn't initially impressed so I never bothered.

If I can find it cheap somewhere, I will pick it up :)

Radiohead are the best band of the last two decades, critically and just because they are fantastic with every album except Pablo Honey worthy being hailed as groundbreaking. Yes that is my opinion but it is backed up by anyone in the know. I feel sorry for those who don't listen to them properly who feel that you can only enjoy the music if you're "cool and alternative". Great music, great lyrics, great image, great ideas just a great band.

In terms of most annoying I am going to go with The Enemy. 18 year old kids singing about their working class heritage, how contrite. Also they just simply suck. :)

Hot Chip?

I find this band the most indescribably irritating pile of nonsense I've ever heard. I'd rather be subject to Cascada or Basshunter than listen to their intolerable, insanely annoying and horrific crap.

Yes, they can loop words, over and over and over again, they can loop video, they can use irritating little noises over their songs but why the hell is this awful crap played everywhere? I'm of the opinion that no sane person could ever find these songs pleasing? The singers voice, the little noises, the looping, the meaningless drivel, it drives me nuts.

/rant. :)

wasn't expecting hot chip when i opened this thread.

back to the original topic, I disagree, i think ready for the floor is a decent dance hit, over and over again is again a classic dance track.

I was complaining the other day i didn't hear enough of them when I'm out and about.

The singers voice is fine and as a live act, they ae fantastic, giving a much different show to what you would otherwise hear on record.

I mean - it's just pop music, what could be so offensive about it?

meaningless drivel? music doesn't have to necessarily make sense - lyrically or otherwise, see the beatles for example (i'm not their greatest fan but seems like the best example in this case)

if you don't want to hear loops, bloops and beeps... don't listen to electronic? Obviously it's not everyones cup of tea but believe me, there are FAR worse bands out there....brokencyde being one of them
