The MSI Neo2 Platinum Owners Help Thread

Has anyone else installed the new 1.8 bios yet? are there any problems with it? i'm currently on the 1.4 bios but i'm think of getting a 3200 venice, is a higher bios needed for that?

It doesn't look like it.

See say here...

The 1st Venice 3500 results on a MSI Neo2 Platinum...
Bios : Beta 7025v1.36

I can guarantee a 3200 venice tho.

Im running the 1.8 bios, will check voltage rails tonight, thats why i was gonna remove the ide hdds, just to take some strain off the psu, as for agp, its set to 4/8, shows as 8x in rivatuner, fastwrites are off as games stutter when its enabled.

UKDTweak - tried to reply this morning, but better late that never.... some suggestions :)

Try changing your IDE cables if possible. I once had a customer PC where they had managed to tear the IDE lead, giving an intermittant connection. Had to look real close at the connector to see the damage.

How good is that sata IDE adapter? Well tested? Any possibilty of dodgy connection there?

LOL - and why do you need a PCI USB card? Isn't there enough on the board already? That must be a lot of devices you need to plug in. Isn't a hub easier than the extra PCI card? What is plugged into this card? And who made the chipset on it? VIA ones have been known to cause BSODs.

If you are mistrusting the PSU, just unplug a few things. Disconnect the DVD drives and unplug a few fans. Reduce the load on the PSU as much as possible, then get back into Prime95 and see what happens.

I'd even get to the level of ripping out the Audigy card as well. Just to reduce the number of items plugged in. Get the PC stripped down to the bare bones. Minimal setup possible to just get into the OS and get prime95 running. If it runs stable, slowly put items back in, testing them one by one.

Good luck :D

0x000e00eSU seams ok, 12volt stays between 12.16 and 12.46 :) 5v stays between 4.96 and 5.01, 3.3 sites a 3.14 ?

Removed two hdds but got same results, played about with divider and have ram running on 133+ 186mhz otherwise default settings and now peime with get to test two before failing with a hardware error.

Might need to do a clean install ?

usb wise i have scanner, printer, web cam, bluetooth, mouse, will try stripping out thie pci card but dont wanna drop the audigy.
Test with 300/9 = 2700 but same error so set it back to 280/10. thing is my system was stable for weeks so it could just be corrupted files in the OS?? hope so.

You can guarantee what? for a 3200 venice.
He has stated that a Venice 3500 will work on an older BIOS, so you can assume a 3200 would be OK.
I don't like posting assumed stuff as it has the habit of biting back when people find it won't boot.

You should be OK, but unless you can find someone that's actually done it you have a small risk.

There seems a fair bit of criticism about MSI on their forums for not answering the Venice question.
So a few people just did it to find out.

hi, i just installed a venice 3200 on my Neo2 Platinum, well it booted up ok (eventually) but before loading windows, theres a 30sec pause, just a black screen.. I have not really found anything about this, maybe others are having the same problem...im not sure.

have flashed to new bios, 1.8 official possibly, installed nf3 drivers. It locks up on occasion too - in games and desktop. just wondering what else could be done to solve these problems.

using- msi neo2, venice 3200, patriot tccd 1gb, maxtor 80gb ide, 550w psu, 6600gt. any help is appreciated!

Do you mean you just changed to a Venice chip?

You can often get a pause that is something to do with the Nvidia IDE drivers.
Many don't install them.

That's true. I ended up with a 30-second pause after installing the latest chipset drivers. Uninstalled the nVidia IDE driver and it went away.

You gotta make sure its the 5.10 drivers. With these you can still install the performance enhancing SW IDE drivers and negate this dastardly 'pause' thing your on about.

thanks for the help guys. i had tried unistalling the 'NF3_CK8S' drivers and installing the 5.10's but still had the boot 'pause' problem. formatted and installed 5.10 nforce and it boots fine now. thanks again

can i ask, ive got a northbirdge chipset cooler. will it fit in this mobo?
also is the chipset fan loud?

thanks

It's going to depend on the cooler.
You can see the problem with a high one ?
It's gonna hit your graphics card.

I personally don't find the stock one that loud.

have you done any overclocking yet with your 3200 ven?

yes a little oc'ing, although i'm not sure if im doing things right, only my 2nd o/c..

i tried using the new 1.8 modded bios but MSI core centre shows cpu temp @ 20c so im using a modded 1.37 bios that shows cpu temps as 35 idle/40 load, seems a little more realistic

using a 166 divider
ram timings are 2.5-3-3-7 (233mhz)
280 x 10
HTT multi 3
using 1.475 vcore and 2.8vdimm

is this setup most effective?

runs ok on cs:source and superpi

Can't load windows onto a IDE drive

Everytime I try to load windows onto an IDE drive it will format it, load all the files and on reboot give "error loading operating system". I've tried 2 IDE drives with the same result.
If I use SATA drive on SATA3 no problem; all loads properly.

Have I got a naff IDE channel? RMA?

Drives are 2 x Seagate 7200.7 40gbs.
BIOS 1.8
3000 Venice
9600XT
2x512mb PC4000 ballistix
365W Enermax

Thanks for any assistence.
