The MSI Neo2 Platinum Owners Help Thread

Anyone know where to get the 64bit driver for the wireless network card? I had it working under W2K but there doesn't seem to be a 64bit driver on the disk for it, and MSI's site has a list of a zillion cards (okay - 27).

WOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Finally got a stable overclock!?

I go and buy an AMD 4000 and then decide to play with my 3200 Winchester until i install the new chip.
Back on page 50 I just ran into walls with overclocking. Couldn’t get anywhere. recently I couldn’t even get a 5% overclock to be stable haha...

Well now running at 2.4ghz (240x10) at about 1.45 volts. 2.5 proved unstable and i didn’t want to increase volts any more.

I found that the ram is limiting me though (crucial ballistix pc4000 2x512)
It couldn’t even handle 210 MHz at 2-2-2-5 1t 2.8v. Doesn’t seem right, but I’m upgrading to 2GB 3200 stuff soonish.

Did a few tests with the ram though. Used a 166 divider to run the ram at 200mhz with the cpu at 2.4ghz with tights timings 2-2-2-5. But this didn’t perform at well as the ram at 240mhz and looser timings of about 2.5-3-3-8 1t. However these settings were unstable in prime.

Sorry for the long post but I do have a couple of questions:

Anyone have any ideas about how to get the ram to run at 240mhz??

Any tips on how to tweak my overclock?

for reference... i dont know why i couldnt overclock before. i have a feeling it was due to the HT setting though. mine was on 4. anything above 200fsb and it would go above the 800 mark. now i thought you were not meant to break 1000... but i read recently its 1000 or in some cases 800. maybe mine is 800????

Ok... not so great.

Ran prime, super pi, BF2 all fine last night.

Today I boot up the pc and nothing. Reset it and it gets to windows but freezes when trying to play a movie in WMP.

Can anyone explain the volts options in the BIOS to me please:
at the moment i have the CPU VID at 1.4 and the CPU Volt at 5%. but tbh im not sure whats what?

Edit: hahahaha.... t e h is blocked - *** :)

Basically, your CPU is running at 1.4volts + 5%

Get rid of the 5% and just take the CPU to 1.5

Check the volts of the CPU with CPU-Z and you will find that the mobo actually knocks it down a smidge, so 1.5v in the bios will really be 1.4V on the CPU

So,in truth, you are probably only giving the CPU a tad over 1.3v, so thats why its not doing too well.

possibly anyway?

whats the stock volts for a 3200 anyway? if i set it to auto cpuz tells me its on 1.360/1.375?

ill try upping it to 1.5ish

odd though, the way it was fine last night but today its have a hissyfit

hmm...
fsb 240 - 1.50 volts no% = failed to load windows.
fsb 240 - 1.45 volts 3.3%= failed to load windows.

fsb 220 - 1.45 volts 3.3%= booted and running prime

what i want to know is why an overclock works at one time but not another.
it was running slightly less volts yesterday 1.4 +5% and seemed fine, today it craves more power?! its MAD i tell you, MMMMAADDD

ill try the next notch up from 1.5v at 240 :p

(a fan mod to 7v shouldnt affect the cpu should it?) (Coolermaster realpower 450W PSU) (power readout jumps up a bit when cpu loaded, i assume thats normal??)

edit:
1.525 no% failuer to boot windows. got a message about something trying to find my array....? so got this to work:
fsb 240 - 1.45 volts 5% = booted and running superpi and prime. cpuz shows 1.5/1.536 for the volts.

Couple of questions for the NEO2 users here:

1) Is there much of a significant performance boost from using RAID 0 config with 2 regular WD Caviar ATA drives rather than just one?
2) If it is worth it, do I have to load the RAID drivers from Floppy disc, or can I use CD-ROM?

Thanks.

i have 2 wd raptors in raid o and find games load a lot faster my advice is to try it and see.i think you can load the drivers from a cd but dont know how.

Whiney little NB fan

I finally snapped. I've had enough of that whiney little northbridge fan. It was making more noise than all the other fans put together.

I unplugged it, and so far the PC is stable.

Any tips on being able to run it quietly ?

Or a suitable replacement ? I'm concerned that some of the ones on the market are two tall to fit, with my 6800 ultra hanging over that area.

Another issue i have is that i've just put another 2 512mb sticks in to take me to 2Gb. They only want to run at DDR333 at default. When i force it to DDR400 windows boots and actually works OK, but there is a strange video corruption problem that is annoying enough to make games unplayable. and using windows itself hard on the eyes.

Any ideas ?

as far as i can rember you need 2 x 1gb sticks to run at 400mhz in the first two slots.

Its a bit early for me ATM, but also check out whether they are double sided, or single... Thats another one that will force them to default to 333.

As for the NB Fan, I just got one of the VANTEC ChipSet coolers... They seem to do the trick for me, as thats what I use on all my PCs...

Bugger :) Might have to ditch these four sticks and get 2 1gb

This a feature of this board specifically, or NF3 in general ?
