Have you checked you ram with memtest?
If it's bad it will stop windows installing.

hey guys, how is the northbridge fan secured? i have bought a zalman passive heatsink and am wondering if i need to remove the mobo to install it?

also what modding do i have to do to the heatsink so it will fit?

thanks

I doubt your get a passive zalman on it without some serious modding of it or unless you have a very short graphics card like this.

Your going to have to remove the motherboard if you intend to use the pins that hold on the southbridge again.
I have seen people just cut the heads off. That does work if you have pins with new cooler.

To remove the stock one, you remove mobo and squeeze the little black things that stick through the motherboard together, and they release.

The stock one isn't that loud, but MSI where a bit sloppy with the thermal paste if your overclocking a lot.
You'll be lucky if it looks like this when you remove it.
Mine was about 50% of that like this :(

That page is for the motherboard, not the wireless card that came with it.

The page that has the drivers on it also has the drivers for countless other wireless cards. Could someone, anyone, just tell me what Device Manager calls the card in XP, so I can download the correct driver for x64?

4 sticks of ram, no picture on screen

Hey, wonder if anyone can help. I have tried MSI tech support and they have come to the conclusion it could be a faulty board. Heres the prob... (I have done some looking around and it seems like it is a common problem, but cant find an answer yet)

I am having trouble getting 4 sticks of ram to work with my motherboard...
The motherboard is: 915P Neo2 Platinum
The ram sticks are all: Geil ddr2 512mb pc2-4300 533mhz.

I get no picture on the screen if I have the ram in:
-All 4 slots.
-2 sticks in Channel A.
-Sticks in slots 1 + 3.
-Sticks in slots 2 + 4.

The only way I can get a picture is to have 2 sticks of ram in Channel B. I have updated the bios to the latest version (2.80) I have also tried lowering the memory speed to 400mhz and increasing the ddr voltage to 2.00v.

Would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks, John.

have you tried the msi live update utility?

Could someone identify the wireless network card that came with the Neo2, please? The question mark in XP x64 is getting annoying...
In device manager mine is called '802.11g PCI Wireless Network Adapter'

Driver Provider: 802.11 Wireless
Driver Date: 10/06/2004
Driver Version: 2.2.6.0
Digital Signer: M W H C P

Windows update always finds a driver for it when I run windows update.

Thank you! The machine it's in doesn't get connected to the net, so I download drivers on this laptop and hook them up to get the files on. Windows Update would take rather a long time over mobile phone!

I have a couple of samsungs 160gb HD SATA I have windows installed on sata 1
it runs OK but when I plug in the other sata in any of the other sata ports the bios will see them both as 160bg and which port its pluged into, but the second HD is not seen by Windows and thats when we can get the thing to boot.
why is it not letting me add the other sata drive.

1gb ddr3200 ballistic 2 * 512
ati 800xt
amd 64 3700
600 watt power

Might be a silly but are you overclocking at all???

If so, then SATA 1 + 2 also overclock.

Or....

As you have only the 2 drives, have you tried connecting the second drive into either 3 or 4?

Also, in the boot section of the BIOS, make sure that it is tryign to boot from the first SATA and not the second, and obviously make sure that you do have them in 1 then 2 instead of 2 then 1... Sata 1 is the furthest towards the bottom right of the board, and Sata 2 is to the left of it. Sata 3 is the top-most port while Sata 4 is just underneath that.

If you are not clocking, then I would put Drive 1 into SATA 1 and Drive 2 into SATA 3 to be honest... They are completely different controlers, so there should not be any kind of compatibility issues with having 2 of the same drive on the same controler.

I find that my Maxtor 160GB hates being connected into the same Motherboard board as any of my otherdrives, and so I have had to put it into its own PC. Maybe the Samsung is the same?

Have you partitioned and formatted the second drive with windows disk management? i don't think windows will see it until then, if it's new..

Yeah, thats sometimes true.

Sometimes you have to initialise a disk for use...

I am not tellign you what to do or anything here, but since you got a new HD, why not reinstall Windows at the same time, onto the new HD? - take the other one off, and add it back later when you are done... That way you get everythign all nicey-nicey fresh and all that, plus you get the HD working.

Just a thought.

I have tried all those things, but now we are going to raid them so need to get the latest one., crappy boards Neo 2 Flatinum I'm glad I went for the VIA K8T880Pro chipset it's been floorless

Couple of thoughts just come into my head.

Mainly that you said the Neo2 is a crappy board, so you went for the VIA instead?

Now, the Neo2 is rated by its owners as one of the most perfect motherboards available, if not THE most perfect. And you say its crappy... Do you have one?

Also your inability to get a HD to work right, is the Motherboards fault is it?

Its a known issue with Maxtor Drives and more so with the SATA 160 Drives which by the way, I have one, and it hates working with many other drives, including Seagate, Hitachi, and WD, on many of my motherboards, including DFI, Abit, and yes, my MSI Neo2 and Neo4... Are all those to blame> No, not when every other HD works just fine, and the Maxtor is the one that does not.

On its own, the Maxtor is fine... Its in a P4 3.6 system... Crappy PC with a crappy HD, make a fine pairing, but to call a motherboard crapy when you dont have a clue, is wrong.
