The new Arsenal Club Thread - *No Spoilers & Read OP Before Posting*

I think someone who can put away the half chances is more important than a replacement winger right now. Martinelli was not that bad against Ipswich, he just needs a few games to settle there. Getting backup for Saka woiuld help but its unlikely Arsenal will get anyone in Jan, certainly not 2 players.

This. Our issues have not been one player not scoring, our quintet of attack have not been clinical. I like that Arteta changed it up with wingers crossing rather than always playing inverted, even if that was forced with the Saka injury.

Arsenal twitter are suggesting Fábio Vieira has been recalled from his loan after being left out of the Porto side and spotting a private plane from Porto to London...

Vieira recall not happening. Looking at his stats he's been pretty poor anyway even for Porto.

Be interesting to see what we do during the window. I don't think a short term solution makes sense so need someone who can do a job now and fits the long term profile.

Am I the only one to think Arteta needs to go if he doesnt win anything this season, is Liverpool win the Prem in first season of a new manager it's not a good look for Arteta and his process.

don't agree with that myself sorry

firstly if you get rid of him who you think is gonna come in and do a better job? theres no one around.

were now consistently involved in title races, and like artetas said before its very small margins that can win or lose you a title. if we ended this season with nothing i would still want to see him continue

absolute madness getting rid of him

Plently of managers about, excusing the big names Zidane, Conte, Simone and the like theres someone like Alonso and then the unknown by most and underrated managers like Adi Hutter, gian Piero Gasperini, Inzaghi, Eric Roy, Sebastian hoeness.

My point is lets not settle on a 7 year+ process when other teams and catching us up and over taking on the first attempt. Like Chelsea they was down and out last season or two and with a couple of bad results lately but they are right up there again.

simone wouldnt fit arsenal at all due to his playstyle - zidane is nailed on to be france manager. conte hell no!!

Alonso nothing to say he will be good i nthe prem its a massive risk and id forget all the rest

As for slot he walked into a squad thats already won stuff - artetas had to build a squad. you dont go into a process for 5 years, spend mega money and then ditch it to start again, if we were struggling for top 4 consistently or dropped off a cliff then yes.

He won as a FA-cup with other managers players, I can argue the teams kinda gone backwards since then. Look at the signings he made, 20ish players with maybe 8 or 9 being good and 700m+ spent, Martinelli has regressed, the only player I can say he's improved is Saka.

Good Signings:
Rice, Raya, timber, Odegaard, Gabby Magalhes, calafiori, Tomiyasu when fit,

Ok squad players:
Havertz, White partey, Trossard, Ramsdale

Bad signings:
jesus, vieira, Zinchenco, Kiwior, longonga, jorginho, mari, taveres, turner, marquinos.

the team has gone backwards? are you for real? we've spent the last 2 seasons in a title race

i dont think jesus or Jorginho are bad signings, white is more than an ok squad player!

And this season we can almost certainly say were out the run in by Jan? two seaons of (almost) isnt good enough we can all see we need a striker and he buys more mids. I want to be proven wrong but I feels hes taking us as far as he can.

on that logic every team from 2nd down to 20th in the league should change the manager also

absolutely mental to say were out the title race already

If they have been in the job of a Prem team for 6/7 years and the expectations is to win something and you have nothing to show for it then yeah maybe. Lets not forget Arteta is the highest paid manager in the prem 15m isnt it?

no he's not pep is and arteta is 2nd

he's finished 2nd in prem 2 years in a row so not out the ordinary for him to be the 2nd highest paid manager is it :o

I would say the premier league is hugely unlikely this season with the points dropped from poor performances and some dodgy ref decisions. I can't see us going on a run like last season with so many not performing. I think he needs a cup of some sort though or might find himself on shaky ground.

The problem is, are you happy forever being the bridesmaid? Will Arteta ever take Arsenal to a title? Its a risk to replace him but this season is probably going to be won with 80pts or something similar. You don't get too many "dud" seasons these days where you don't need 90pts plus to win the league.

I think hes done a fantastic job but is the issue that the team needs to be better or that the manager needs to be better? Sometimes managers simply don't have that little bit extra to win the really big trophies and eventually players start to feel that too any the team will start to regress.

I agree with this, I was at the Brighton game and you could see it was getting away from the players, What I think makes a top top manager is the ability to change formations and personel in the game IE game management, Arteta doesnt at this moment seem to have this nailed down, Nwaneri tho young he got hooked early while being the only real threat we had in the game. Martinelli didn't offer us anything and I feel he really needs to have a decent season as hes not really improved since we signed him.

Why is Partey being played as a RB? Pepteta is tring to copy city far too much for my tastes.

Sorry back to the game, surely it would have made sense to bring on Skelly as RB push Partey back in to mid (where he plays best) and go with two upfront Martinelli and Jesus. my two pennies on the game anyway, I'm no manager but it seemed like we was trying to play for a 1-0 win and once they scored the pen (not a pen BTW) our mentallity was already set on defend and it's hard to get out of that.

I think Arteta is fine. Arsenal need that super star to get them over the line. Liverpool have Salah and City Haaland. Arsenal have a very good defence and midfield. Best CB pairing in the league and their fully fit midfield is as good as anyone else. Their forward line leaves a lot to be desired however with Saka being the only real talent.

The fear for Arsenal is constantly becoming the bridesmaid which is when the players lose their mentality and end up forever being like that. A bit like Newcastle in the 90's.

I used to enjoy watching saka and martinelli driving into the box when they 1st burst onto the scene, the longer Arteta has them the more the unpredictable is being coached out of them (similar to guardiola). These days it seems they are under instruction to drive to the 18 yard box and then go down under any sort of challenge looking for a set peice. Said a couple of weeks back that if they don't win anything it could be a very fun close season given the fan base, and it's started already.

Arsenal under arteta are very much a discount Athletico with all the diving, time-wasting and general snideiness, Simone is just a much better coach than arteta though.
