The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

I always wanted an Arca Swiss, for as long as I can remember but I could never stomach it. Stupid as it is relatively priced compared to the value of my kit.

A dam fine upgrade on the kit lens....Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM. Constant f2.8 is lovely to use, focus very quick...

It's here - two days after ordering!

:)

What a piece of glass!

Looks so sexy on the 5DMKIII. I was at first against the 35mm focal length but I've quickly realised that this lens will firmly be attached to my 5DMKIII for most of the time.

Looking forward to taking it out at the weekend!

Got my new X100S last week, absolutely loving it, my daughter gives it a thumbs up as well!

100% crop to give an idea of sharpness and tones (I love B&W)

Had the Canon 28mm 1.8 a couple of weeks now and pretty happy with the results tbh. It gets a bad rap in a lot of reviews but honestly, for the price I paid, I'm pleased. I think it deserves some airtime for anyone considering the 4x more expensive L versions.

This is at f/2.2, I have had a few sharp shots at 1.8 but it gets sharper all over from 2.2 onwards -

Crop -

Very nervous bokeh though, and you have only given a crop from the centre where most lenses are sharp stopped down a little.

Bokeh looks 'ok' to me, though obviously not smooth butter...

Haha, I need to get me some of that brave bokeh. Anyway, I was trying to imply that I'm satisfied with the results I've been getting for the £250 I paid. Hopefully anyone else considering it might give it some extra thought rather than just going on test charts.

I think a lot of lenses, especially wider ones like this, would display nervous bokeh with a background full of long grass and tree branches?

It's not all bad anyway -
