The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

I know that model :D

Gave me a long stretch of awesome capturing it did.

Yeah, you cost me £70 you did :p could have got the canon 1.4 then I tried the sigma :(

Mind you, this does look much better on the camera from a size perspective. The 6D kind of dwarfed the others xD

Yeah, what are you guys waiting for?

*brandishes 35 and 85*

;)

Edit*
That reminds me, need to upload a pic of the thing I noticed in the 35 thread...

I think the Sigma is currently the best 50?

Just the 35 & 85 1.4 to get now... :p

Really wouldn't surprise me. Obviously haven't tried the nikons, but based on five minutes with each canon today (I know that's not necessarily enough time), but the immediate reaction said the sigma was better.

The canon 1.2 was nice, but I have no idea how you'd cope with such slow af... May as well mf.

I've got the Sigma and like it a lot. Eventually though I'll get the Canon 1.2, along with the 85 1.2 this will be only when my daughter has slowed down a bit so a few years yet!

I want to get the 1.2 :(

I'm pretty sure I'll cope though, nothing can be slower than the 85L.

They offered to let me try the 85L for 5 minutes as well... I did not want to risk that :D

To be fair, the 50 wasn't horrifically slow, but wasn't fantastic, and as I'm wanting more of a walkabout thing, I'm not sure how it would cope. Plus y'know, I wasn't going to spend that anyway.

This way with the sigma, unless I really really find I'm using a 50 all the time, I doubt I'll ever need to upgrade it.

5DIII is ok ;):D:D

These arrived the other day.

Treating the gf to her first SLR, giving her my Tamron 17-50mm to go with it. I couldn't go without treating myself to my first white lens, all ready for the Grand Prix in China next month :D

Nice, what lens is it?

Bought a Crumpler Jackpack for those times where I have to carry lots of stuff:

And fo' shiggles I decided to see how much I could fit in it:

Not pictured is the light meter under the Hexar and a Ricoh GRDIII in the front pocket. I'd never carry that many bodies though, it'd usually be a Rollei + 2 of the smaller bodies when I do use it. Still prefer shoulder bags but I need the backpack when I have to carry a laptop.

70-300 4-5.6L^^

:D

Thanks, what price did you pay AD? I think I might have to invest in a tele at some point.

£850 from HDEW, where it is now £889. I was going to buy it well over a month ago (before the panamooz and Canon price rises), but I didn't bother and now regret that.

It's a lovely lens and perfect for my needs. I wanted something that is compact and easy to carry around on my worldly travels, 200mm just isn't enough and would lead me to look at a 1.4x add on anyway, plus it has IS. I know people would say get the 70-200mm F4L IS, but this would end up more expensive for me (1.4x etc) and would mean I needed a much deeper bag. With the TT Retrospective 7 I've just ordered, the 70-300mm L attached to the 5D3 should fit in easily.

I really need to learn how to shoot properly though as tbh my photos are absolutely pants compared to most in here, I just don't seem to have the photography mind at the moment when it comes to framing shots!

'All the Gear, no idea' :D

Which of their bags is that GTRacer? I was considering the one in your photos or the other one, i think there's a 'half system' and 'full system'. Does yous have a normal backpack compartment for other bits?

The 70-300L :). It's a stunning lens that, I've had mine for 3 months and it still blows me away. Enjoy it!

Nothing stunning, but tried the 50 1.8/1.4/1.2 by canon and this.

The 1.8 and 1.4 canons weren't bad, they just didn't blow me away.

I was never going to buy the 1.2, but they had one there, so I figured I'd try it. Problem was it was SO slow to focus.

How is your copy?

I went through two copies and couldn't stomach a third. Inconsistent AF issues. It's such a shame as I could tell it was such a capable lens.

After some thought about my current range of lenses I plumped down on the Sigma 35mm 1.4 instead. I was considering the 85mm but it's just too close to the focal range of my 100mm macro L for me to justify the extra lower light ability. Really hoping I have no problems with this 35mm as Sigma's 50 left a bad taste in my mouth.

Seems pretty solid.

I tried the one in wex that was in display when I went in, and that one was fine, then bought a different one, from their warehouse.

I haven't had a chance to take it out and truly test it, but at the moment, based on some shots if flowers indoors, food, and just about everything else I can shoot inside, it seems spot on. That said, I haven't imported them all into LR yet, so can't say 100% it's spot on.

I only have the 24-105 on top of this, and it's just so different, and so much better in some ways, completely reteaching me some things...

It's the full system, there isn't any space for normal stuff although what I do is to get the bigger divider and use that to split the main compartment in half so the bottom is photo gear while the top has other stuff. It's a pretty slim pack as well, it doesn't stick out from your back too much.
