The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

Wanted something a little smaller for when I didn't fancy carrying full frame kit around with me, and at the price I couldn't say no!

Nice, you'll enjoy that.

Oh, and you'll be sniffing around the X-E1/E2/Pro/T1 deals before you know it....

I was already tempted to chop in my Canon kit for an X-T1, but its a little bit of a compromise right now, plus an expensive swap to get similar prime lenses!

I strolled into Park Cameras with the intention of handling an E2. The missus, no doubt buoyed by the purchase of a £2500 sofa minutes beforehand saw the look of love on my face and said "Go on- buy one". Spousal approval makes these sort of decisions very easy.... :)

I was very tempted by the T1, mainly for the ISO dial and the very impressive EVF, but didn't want to wait for a deal (currently free lens on the E2). Also I wanted something as compact as possible as a contrast to my DSLR kit, and the E2 is about as big as I want to get currently.

So far absolutely loving it. I'm probably going to sell off all my DSLR lenses except the 17-55f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 II.

Aha, fair play :p

My most used lenses right now on FF are the 35mm and 85mm, however. Chopping in my kit and replacing it with an X-T1, 23mm f/1.4 and 56mm f/1.2 would actually end up costing me, and I'd lose having a general purpose zoom if I had a need for it, hence why I ended up sticking.

Ooh, what's this?

Just love unpacking new L glass. Sadly this is only my second time.

The old and trusty will be missed. I've even contemplated keeping it as a standby.

First impressions - wowser.

Lovely Chris ^ :)

had a bit of a splurg myself this morning (much to my overdrafts dismay)

Bought myself a 7D :D along with a CF card and a kingston usb to cf reader.

I feel very poor, but am super excited for tomorrow!!!!!

Any initial tips for having gone from a 450D to a 7D?

It'll be sad to see the 450D go, but needs must!

On that note, anyone looking for a 450D? :p;)

What camera bags/sling bags do you guys use for having rapid, easy access to lenses on the fly? I have a Lowepro Transit 350AW, which takes everything, but it wants to be laid down and opened on the floor whenever I can't reach to the side pocket and grab a lens.

Lowepro SlingShot are worth looking at. What are you looking at carrying?

I usually use a Domke F2 or a Billingham Hadley Pro depending on what I'm carrying. Both are great bags.

Re

I like my Slingshot 300AW, you just slide it round from your back to your belly, open the side flap to pull out a DSLR with lens attached, or unzip the flap further for access to the lens compartments (all reconfigurable).

The only downside is that by the nature of the design, it's single strap only, and it's always the same shoulder, so if you're carrying a lot of kit it can make that shoulder ache. It does have a decent belt strap to help though.

I await review/thoughts/pics with interest! :)

Initial impressions are

- I like the bigger lens, it's why I bought it, I find the Canon too small.
- good build quality. Very good in fact.
- very little CA that i can see
- sharp wide open

Pics to come, the lens came in time for a wedding next weekend.
