The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

It'll be used on dance floor shots, with primes, something like this, so it'll be fine, and it's 1/5th of the cost of a new 600EX-RT!

Bit the bullet..

Spent the last few weeks trying all manner of kit out, tried second hand phase one rigs, Nikon D800s and D800E, ended up going with a 645D:

GlLhaKV.jpg

Almost went for the 645Z, but it's nearly £7k and comes with loads of features I simply won't use.. I almost went for a D800E - which would have been the cheaper option, but having shot 5x4 for the last 5 years, the 3:2 aspect ratio of 35mm just totally turned me off, I missed the height in the frame, most of my shots I tend to work with big foregrounds and stuff - 3:2 is either too wide, or portraits are too skinny.

Managed to get one of the legendary old manual focus 35mm (26mm equiv) A lenses off ebay for £350, sharp as hell - easily as sharp as the P45+ rig and the hasselblad H4D rigs I tried.

Need to learn how to shoot digital now, the thing is like a toy compared to 5x4 rofl :D

V-Spec, that post made me go all gooey eyed.

So I'm assuming thats a MF digital camera? if this because you couldnt get the film anymore? I remember you posting about it a little while ago.

Well its here!

Scuse the mess, in the midst of moving at the minute! I have purchased a tray, handles and flash arm for my UW rig :)

Anyway, it's all made by a company called Ultralight, and the build quality is immense. Very pleased and it's going to get a lot of use next week when in Egypt :)

Have posted this in 2 other threads now, but I'M EXCITED :D

Yeah, digital medium format (645) 40MP,

There were a number of reasons but the main reason was the halt in production of sheet velvia 50 5x4 a few years ago - I had a freezer full, but it's now almost depleted.

Also, I've become fed up of carrying the large-format pack, with everything in including tripod it weighs around 65-70lb - there are a number of reasons for switching, but the lack of film, overall weight and cost of processing/scanning have tipped me over the edge,

Nice underwater rig, when I was at the BWPA a while ago I saw some of Alex Mustard's work - really awesome underwater photography,

Yeah I can appreciate the weight issue, I've stopped taken my DSLR abroad unless its a specific photography trip - I now take the Olympus. Weighs 1/5th of the DSLR. It's refreshing to not heft it around :)

Thanks, I can't wait to use it in anger next week.

There's a bunch of people who go out diving around the Farne islands photographing the seals under water, some pretty amazing shots come out of them - also some amazing places around Scotland and Shetland where the waters are very clear (25M visibility) so you could certainly get some great stuff up there - if you can deal with the cold :p

I've got a drysuit, fully prepped for UK diving. :)

Also taking my gf to the Farne Islands for her birthday in September for the weekend, it's going to be awesome!

Hoping for a cuddle! http://vimeo.com/78209843 :D

looks like so much fun! I'll be in Arizona in September for a 3 week photography trip, so hopefully we'll both get some l33t shots,

\m/

I'll be creating a Phates photo thread (because it seems to be the done thing) when I get back from Egypt at the end of July :) UW content will be there!

Some recent kit, the eg-s screen has been a revelation at 1.4 and macro work. Just waiting for the grip to arrive now :)

Can't wait! :D - I hear they like to nibble fins as well  :D

Some will try and nip any part of your kit they like the look of, including your dry suit, I had one obsessed with chewing my arm and I had to give it a forceful shove in the face to get rid

They may also latch onto your leg, funny at first but they're strong and it saps energy trying to manoeuvre heh, some may also mimic your actions if you're lucky and others like to play hide and seek

They're very like mischievous puppies

70d arrived today , 18-200mm lens kit, 50mm f1.8, bag , 2 32gb cards and uv filter, still on way home so pics to follow ! My 1st slr so big learning curve ahead!

Ah I heard it was fins and fingers only! :) Thanks for the tip! There will be photos of course :D

So my Canon 6D arrived today, such a jump from a 20D and 40D. The viewfinder is huge, High ISO noise control is amazing and full frame at last - I absolute love it !!
I ordered the model without Wi-Fi and GPS (N) model but they sent me the version with those features (WG). Happy days :)

Here it is paired with my 9 year old 17-40L F4, which can now finally be used to it's full potential.
