The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

http://www.tamron.eu/uk/lenses/sp-15-30mm-f28-di-vc-usd/

Friend of mine checked the new Tamron out a while back at a photo show and was really impressed by the sharpness and performance. Seems to live up to Tamron's prime lens sharpness claims.

I've decided to buy one and replace the 17-40mm, finally. Anyone else got the 15-30?

£899+del seems cheapest so far.

But you can get the Canon 16-35 2.8 for the same price?

Tamron is £800 with 10 year warranty here... from official disti... (just to wind you up :p) hehe

The MK1 that is though, which I do not want. Plus the Tamron has OS and is sharper.

I'm going to go for it!

No... MK II... I just bought one :p

£900 with 3 year warranty from Euro-stock... not grey import. Official Canon European stock.

Not a competitor - so I shouldn't be breaking rules - https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/produc...-ii-usm-3-jahre-premium-garantie-lens-2478258

Prices here for electronics and camera gear are pretty darn good... grey import prices for canon approved stock and suppliers with good warranty :)

Just checked the price of a 16-35 ii in UK... Jessops asking £1111 - yikes!

That hop over the channel is quite the hike in the price... I almost forget being over here for my 3rd year.

Hmm that's interesting then! Although looking at comparisons, the difference in fov between 17 and 16mm is too small. Plus I want OS!

Wow, just did a weekend of photos at a work event and the quality of this lens is a clear step above anything else I own or have ever used. Portraits and candid shots just look amazing and the sharpness, clarity and contrast are simply exceptional, images just pop out of the screen. And the bokeh is just sooo creamily pleasing. Consider me a new Sigma Art lens fanboy...

I really hope Sigma get their arse in gear and get the long-rumoroured 24-70 and 70-200 out soon... if they are anything like the quality of the global vision that they have implemented then they will be a real treat. :)

Noticing some odd behaviour recently with my 2 month old 16-35 4L IS, at the short end I am seeing focus hunting. It occurs at random times and in situations where there is high contrast present.

I guess it's not classic focus hunting, as it isn't doing a wide seek and failing to focus, but more so the focus is rocking back and forth very slightly in very quick succession. Camera doesn't report a focus fail, it will just keep rocking back and forth until I left my finger off the shutter.

Very glad I purchased from Amazon UK, I think this is my first lens which isn't a grey.

It's a LOT bigger than I expected. Sadly the front lens cap had a crack in it so will email digirev to see if they can send me a new cap only. the lens is sharper than I expected too. So sharp, whatever the FL, wide open. The contrast is great too.

These samples are untouched. Click for full res.

The leather stitching on the left seat was focus point, the T on the cap was focus point.

Looks nice... I still haven't got my 16-35L II yet :(

That looks tempting, the rendition looks nice... only I really like the way the finishing on the L glasses render colours. But then the IS could be useful on the Tamron.

Arrived over the weekend courtesy of Digitalrev, Sony A6000 and Sony 35mm f1.8

Very impressed so far but the digital viewfinder takes some getting used too.
