The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

Yes they are, there's a decent FAQ on their website which explains exactly what they do and how they do it, the warranty you get and anything else you might want to know. I emailed them with a few more questions of my own and had a very quick response which put my mind at rest.

I read plenty of reviews on forums (including this one) and it all checked out so I placed the order. Other than it taking 7 days instead of next day as you might get with a UK company, the eperience was identical in terms of confirmation & tracking emails etc. I saved over £1k on the lens and it arrived via DHL very well packaged in all original Canon boxes etc. exactly as if I'd bought from Wex, London Camera Exchange or anywhere else in the UK.
That’s good to know I’m toying with upgrading my trusty 80d to r6 mk II and that kinda saving makes it more easier to swallow.

I'm planning to buy the Canon 100-500 in the next month or so. I've used E-Infin before with no issues. I was thinking about going with P...oz this time. P...oz is £100 more expensive but they have a 3-year warranty rather than a 1-year warranty. Any opinions on whether the extra warranty is worth another £100? I've never had to use a warranty with camera equipment before but this will be my biggest camera purchase by some distance.

Do you mean P….oz?
I used them once as they were cheaper for what I was wanting at the time. I can’t say I’d have a preference either way. I guess the 3 year warranty is good and IIRC the way it works is you go ahead and get a repair done and they basically foot the bill. According to any reviews I’ve read they seem to honour it well.
Both outlets are slow to deliver (for me anyway). I must get the short straw every time but my orders routinely take 2 weeks, I think the quickest I ever got one was 12 days. Yet, many others seem to get their orders in the same week!

I purchased an a7riv from them 2-3 years ago. item arrived in seven days. On arrival there was a mix up with the languages on the camera (everything except English). I informed them and received a replacement in less than a week with a £50.00 discount for the inconvenience. I can't fault them.

It's not warranty in the true sense however, as I mentioned, they do seem to have a good track/anecdotal record of honouring that warranty.
Yeah I get that, I’ve had an issue with a lens before purchased from them, it was fixed over here and they refunded the cost once I’d shown them the receipt.

Some people can be funny about paying up front for it and getting refunded but it was straight forward and I had the money within a day.

I bought the 100-500 Canon lens from P...moz. It took 8 days to get to me and was very well packaged.

Initial impressions are pretty good. It's a significant upgrade from my EF 100-400 Mk 1.

Thanks to everyone that gave me advice.

Have not bought new camera gear in years, so treated myself to a tripod upgrade, going to put my Velbon rexi Ultra L and Calumet 7049 Pro-D ball head on MM for anyone interested!

Benro Tortoise TTOR35C carbon with GX35 ball head. incredible quality and features for the price compared to a Manfrotto from my research, the tools included are nice too.

That Benro does look very nice in Carbon, I'd love to upgrade to something a bit lighter than my 15+ year old Manfrotto.

Initial impressions ??

Honestly, so far I'm pretty happy with it. It's built like a tank and feels very solid but that does mean it weighs 1.6kg. The focus mech is extremely stiff, the faster you try to turn it the harder it gets to turn. It probably takes 4 seconds to get from one end of the scale to the other however it is very smooth and this works great when doing small focus adjustments. Image quality-wise I have no complaints, once processed it is more than sharp enough and beyond my expectations for it.

Picked up a 35/50/85 in RF mount from amazon with their Black Friday deals. Since getting the R5 Mark II and using it so little due to the size/weight of the 24-105, I wanted to get the primes I had on EF mount. Will see how much I use each lens and then possibly stomach getting an L. I just can't bear to pay £1500+ on a 35mm L...

Got the 35mm through yesterday and there is dust between the elements which is great and had to end up buying another and then returning this as amazon wanted to repair it and couldn't offer a replacement. The 85 seems ok...waiting on the 50 which will undoubtedly be the worst of the 3.

I think I've been spoiled with L and Sigma Art lenses as these just feel horrible. Loud motors, poor focus speed, build quality not great and no weather sealing gasket. How very snooty of me.

I just don't think I'm gelling with the R5 Mark II in all honesty. I'm not the greatest fan of an EVF and they haven't got that much better since I had an Alpha 77 over 10 years ago.

First kit in a long time. Tamron 20mm f2.8.

I'm shooting a lot of video of climbing outdoors and the 24 and 28 mm options on my zooms weren't quite wide enough. Pretty happy with it so far, to focus is a bit noisy but not an issue as I just manual focus and leave it on a tripod.
I have 35mm version of this.
Such an underrated lens - light weight, amazing image quality/sharpness, macro 1:2 and super cheap.

Defo would recommend these for people looking for bang for buck :)

Yeah I can't faulty it really. Well, I don't know if it's the lens or body, but shooting landscape videos, the auto focus can have a habit of hunting, mainly with challenging subjects with a lot of cloud.

The A7C is amazing at tracking eyes, but landscapes it can't handle for some reason!

So I've been wanting this lens for about 3 years. I rented one 2 years ago and it was amazing, so after this I defo knew I wanted it :)
Today it arrived and this is some sample first outing images taken using it - it looks good !

I'll be using it to photograph my sons footy team matches, his karting and airshows.
