***THE NEW KING - GTX 590 IS HERE!***

^^^
It does work, as evidenced by a couple of posters who are obviously more easily taken in.
Thing is, this forum has the potential to offer a public service and be an antidote to the propaganda that preys on the less aware...

Totally agree with you, hence why i signed up to this forum, after many years of just browsing.
There are a lot of knowledgable people on this forum, its good that there are because they have deterred me from purchasing the 590.

Just unfortunatley a lot of others who dont subscribe to this sight wont be so lucky, or will really enjoy there purchase, as they havent read what we have.

580 SLI for me now :)

All of these new GFX cards are all nonsense TBH. there you go. I said it! Until there is a PS4 or an Xbox720 or some other thing out there in the console market games makers will continue to provide games that will play perfectly well on a sub £100 card (look at the deals on the older cards on OCUK)
consoles dictate how games are made NOT the PC market and as it seems the next gen of consoles are still years off you can expect another year or two of graphics cards released that make no improvements because the games wont be made to use any extra power all due to the lack of new consoles.
It's very simple really and all these new cards are wasted money right now and just clever marketing.
Anybody for DX9 Crysis 2 on a 5850? you get the idea.
you may as well save the money and get a couple of them or even just 1 of them will tide you over till the next wave of consoles come out.
overrated rubbish by both Nvidia and AMD that will never need the power they have.
Maybe 1 games developer will take a gamble and make a top end game for top end PC graphics cards but I personally doubt it very much.
It's all about the consoles on when the power of these cards get's unleashed.

These cards are useful when you want to go TriFre & Quadfire & Quadsli.
If someone just want to go dual GPU then buy 2 singles unless space is really an issue.

Pretty much +1

Seriously awesome picture lol

But the 590 does use more power than the 6990, pretty much all reviews I've read say that

True and Nvidia claims the TDP of the GTX590 is 365 watts where as the HD 6990 is 375 yet the GTX590 is every review uses more power. Isn't about time some reviewers took Nvidia to task on this? People like Chris Angelini at Toms Hardware are quick to point out the the how much they prefer the 590 over the 6990 but brush over the fact that the card draws more power then it's nearest competitor which is remarkable considering the lower TDP.

This kind of blatant garbage deserves a ban TBH

Getting directly to the point, major German Tech Websites ComputerBase and PC Games Hardware (PCGH) both report that they must use the “High” Catalyst AI texture filtering setting for AMD 6000 series GPUs instead of the default “Quality” setting in order to provide image quality that comes close to NVIDIA’s default texture filtering setting. 3DCenter.org has a similar story, as does TweakPC. The behavior was verified in many game scenarios. AMD obtains up to a 10% performance advantage by lowering their default texture filtering quality according to ComputerBase.

You may need google translate to help. But its all there, Is the appology in the post ?

My god,

We are not back on this again, thought this IQ issue had been put to bed along time ago even raven gave up in the end. From what i understand it was only on the 6800 series not the 6900. Also a number of sites also claimed they could not tell, so let it go.

Simple facts are,

6990 faster in some
590 faster in others

both going to cost you more than buying SLI or Crossfire that will match if not beat it.

You can let AMD and Nvidia fight a battle on who is faster, 90% of us are not buying so dont get dragged into a marketing war over something that does not effect you, use your brains not the ones either side (green or Red)what to give you.

Thats a good point. The dual GPU cards are cheaper than their equivalent single GPU cards, but clocked a lot lower and perform worse, whereas a pair of overclocked 6950s or GTX 560s will come very close, while a pair of 6970s (or unlocked 6950s), or GTX 570s will completely decimate the dual GPU cards.

My 6990 clocked upto 950 on the core last night just fine when i tried so id think performance wise could hold its own with xfired 6970s

I wonder how loud that must be though :).

Though two of ATIs reference fans in Xfire would probably be really loud as well.

But at least the 6990s can OC well, whereas the GTX 590s explode.

The noise it makes is not as bad as i was expecting tbh after reading the reviews i was expecting a jet on take off but id say its no louder than my 5970 + 5870 and the over clock i tried last night i left the fan on auto.

Plenty of guys here have fans jacked up high making a racket so their overclocked whatever dont fry.
