The New Tomb Raider

I loved the last one! Just played through it in 4k and really took the time to look for all the little things. Still only beat it with 81% haha. Really looking forward to the new one!

Quick Time Event. So when "X" pops up you have to press x quick.

Sometimes they have to be timed to rather than just immediately press the button. Part of the problem with them in the original tomb raider for me though:

-Couldn't get a setup that worked well with my normal mouse and keyboard FPS gaming layout.

-Highly erratic if the game actually responded correctly to pressing keys either timing or mechanics during them i.e. the one hanging upside down from a hook or whatever I had to reload half a dozen times before it would function correctly. I discovered on several you actually had to press the button slightly after you were supposed to press the button or it wouldn't work - which left a tiny margin to react inside before it failed you for taking too long. (especially ones where it came out of a cutscene into you having to quickly press a key - often the time delay transitioning out of the cutscene state to where the game was responsive to the player again overlapped the time for pressing the button slightly making it very tricky).

-Didn't always show which key you needed to press correctly - either not displaying the hint properly or showing that you had to press a certain key but only responded if you pressed a different key.

Quite a few I only got past i.e. the wolf one early on by just button mashing repeatedly until it finally worked which is just totally pointless and a little hilarious.

The QTE allowed you to defeat the enemy in a way that would otherwise be impossible. The QTEs with the wolves at the beginning annoyed me, so much so that I give up on this game twice before I got hooked the 3rd time :)

I'm not totally against QTEs - a lot of my complaints about them with the previous TR was due to as much a buggy port of the mechanics of them to PC and I don't find them overly difficult but even when they work properly I feel they add nothing to the experience and often detract from it if you are having problems with one for whatever reason - they really should make them more optional and/or provide some alternative on PC as they are much less suited to the platform than on consoles (not remove them entirely as some people do play on PC with controller, etc. and enjoy a different type of experience).

I found it to be the right balance between adventuring, combat and puzzles
There were puzzles??!!
I remember 30-second side rooms where you got hint text, followed by objective indicators, followed by Lara telling you exactly what to to... don't remember ever being puzzled by anything, though... not like the originals, anyway.
The rest was all this QTE and shooty stuff and yet another Far Cry 3 islandy survivaly sort of game...

Just looks the exact same as the previous one. :/
Oh. I won't bother getting upset if it's not released on PC, then...

Just bought the last one that came out for 4bucks on Steam... If i get into it, maybe i'll try out the new title.

Was nothing like Far Cry 3.

Do agree the tombs/puzzles were pretty weak, though. That's been a big focus for this one, though. Hopefully it pans out.

It's actually a pretty nice upgrade in graphics from what we've seen, but I guess you're looking for negative impressions.

On an island, bit of scavenging, lots of shooting.
One of several games along similar linmes that all came out around the same time. I didn't realy keep track, TBH.

On the contrary, I'm a big fan of Tomb Raider and have played all the main releases, as well as a couple of the 'other platforms' ones. Some of them I have played several times and I'm in the middle of my fourth or fifth playthrough of TR:Underworld right now... In fact, I only ended up with a full-on gaming PC because my Netbook stuttered when running Legend.
After my considerable disappointment with the last one, I had been hoping for very positive impressions on this... just finding none so far.

Being a third person game(tomb raider) makes a lot of difference... and then there's a list after that. Far Cry 3 is slightly more in depth. Tomb raider relies on a lot of plat forming elements too, proper plat forming and climbing.

They are very, very different sort of games. If you're going to argue otherwise, then I have to assume you're actively looking to be negative, as I suspected.

You're finding none because you're exclusively picking out any negative impressions you can find. No doubt fueled by your dislike of the last title.

I dont demand or care that you appreciate or like what has been shown, but it's severely obvious when people just aren't even remotely trying to give it a chance.

I didn't look THAT closely, to be honest. I watched some trailers and a few gameplay vids, enough to decide if the games interested me or not. I only played Tomb Raider because it's a Tomb Raider title.

Given that most of the positive reviews speak about how much like the last game it is and I didn't like that one, what else is there but for me to think, "Oh, more of the same crap", then?

If it comes out on PC then I will buy it and I will play it - THAT will be its chance.
But if it remains a console-only title, I won't get that chance and so won't give a toss either way. Just sayin'....

I enjoyed the first one, if this has less QTE then I'll be happy with it.

It has more from the demo I played, had around 4-5 within 10 minutes. :o

Not sure I'm hyped for it really, it looks the exact same as the first but I did only get 15 minutes to play... might grab it cheap.
