The Night Manager

First two episodes pretty good, although my initial thought was copying Roper’s model was a little obvious/lazy but I’m sure that will be pretty insignificant as that goes on. I’m not a fan of this weekly waiting game though!
Can probably tell I was only half way through the second episode when I posted this…

Will likely have to have the subtitles on when I get round to watching this properly. I skimmed five minutes partway through ep I guess it was, where they were around a pool, and I could barely hear what they were saying, seemed very mumbly. Is the rest of it like this?

Last two episodes have been cracking. So tense, especially both last scenes.

P.s Camila Morrone is stunning!

Yeah, i thought that was up there with S1 tbh.

The twist at the end was great, Roper winning a round. Sets up nicely for S3. Angela Burr though, didn't see that coming, grim. And Teddy's death was proper sad, a soul redeemed and then has his life snuffed out straight away

The twist at the end was awful - seemed like it was shoe horned in last minute as they got green lighted for S3. Relationship between Roper and Pine continues to make even less sense as time goes on. Shoddy series in comparison to the first.

I thoroughly enjoyed but yes
switching the planes was a carbon copy of switching the trucks in the first season (watching the cups Jonathan).
I do enjoy the to and fro between Pine and Roper though.

Id read they made a 2 season arc so I doubt it was rushed. Makes a lot of sense to do some big damage with a twist like that. In the end its Roper v Pine.

Hugh Lawrie is bloody good.

Do we need spoilers anymore?

I actually thought the ending was very poor and it's fallen into the same trap as many modern drama's. When the story struggles, or you can't think of anything more to do, do the shock factor - kill off everyone, even if the situation doesn't follow the character.

I didn't mind Teddy going, that really upped the ante of how nasty Roper really is, but killing off Burr just didn't make sense.

Angela Burr was a massively driven character and wasn't an idiot. Far from it. When the airdrop went wrong and she was in the Library with Mayra.. and Mayra walked out, there is no way she would have just gone home to France. Not with what happened in series 1 with Roper nor with Mayhew. Maybe she would have leaked everything to the press, or found a way with the CIA again to help, or gotten in touch with people she knew in the River house since she was completely vindicated in her persuit of Roper before.

I supose she had her family there and maybe went back but she was an organised operative in the past.. she would have known there was a risk so would have had an out for them planned.

They could have/ should have done more with her than just kill her off in a lazy shock and I think her character deserved to survive to the end.

S1 shows why Le Carre is such a good writer. S2 was entertaining with nice twists but lacked the nuance and depth of the first.

I don't know of his writings but did he not write S2 as a book i.e. did they expand? I know the first is an adaptation.

Yes “The second season is not based on a specific, existing John le Carré novel, as there was no direct sequel written by the author.”
